    School me on Surge Brakes

While I'm waiting for my SF-97 and plates, getting the wiring done and all, I want to do some really work on the braking system on this trailer. So, how do the surge brakes work? What should I look for in the ways of damage or needs for concern? Because I really haven't looked under the...

New Member, What size pintle hitch, Land Rover

A 10K hitch is more than sufficent. That's what I used to pull mine home with.

Keep it stock or modify to suit

Doing the tilt bad thing is one of the mods I do plan on. I never thought of changing the axle out. Finding a straight axle with a 3rd Gen Dakota lug pattern might be difficult... I do plan on hauling some loads with it, dirt, bark, gravel, so keeping brakes on it that work are important...

Keep it stock or modify to suit

So, because I've really not seen any true answers here, and because if I really want to, I can always get another one, is the idea to keep your surplus trailer as stock as possible or to modify it to fit your needs to make it easier for your use? In my case, I'd really like to change the...

    Sf97

It shows as a model M101a2 3/4 Ton Trailer Yes it is home, sitting peacefully in my driveway. Rules on Gl state you have to pick up your item before submitting the SF-97 request form. I just never thought of looking on the data plate for the information first. I just looked to verify teh VIN...

    Sf97

So many trailers..... So many pictures with just the manufacturing information..... So many really crappy pictures.... Finally, one with weights that I could read.... SF-97 submitted. Oh, and they don't take NA for things like mileage, cylinders, and you have to choose a fuel type...

    Sf97

That's cool, But they want numbers in the weights.... 'NA' don't work....

    Sf97

Okay, So I'm on the GL site filling out the SF97 form request. And it wants answers that I just don't have. I have a 3/4 ton trailer, BTW Empty weight? GVWR? Do I leave the fuel type blank, or put down 'other'? Can I put in 'UNK in the mileage window? What type of comments should I...

Finally, I get to bring mine home!

It actually towed quite well. I was a littte worried. I purposely avoided the m105 because of the size. it's almost too much for my truck to pull when empty! So now a little paperwork and modifying, and I'll have a great utility trailer for many uses.

    Electrical ?

It's from another thread in here. I probably couldn't find it on a dare....

    Electrical ?

Oh... Well, it's a 1990 Kasel MFG M101a2 The tail lights look like they have backup lights also.

    Electrical ?

Are all the trailer plugs the same. wiring wise? I just got my M1012A home and I printed up a wiring diagram I found in here (Figure 2-57) And it says 'Marker lights'. Does my trailer have marker lights or just reflectors? They sure don't look like lights... I wish this diagram was more...

    M101 Trailer Wiring Connector Setup

So, beside the hitch itself, what would it take to get one of these made, only to go into a 7 wire round plug? My 4 wire died already.... I need to modify my hitch to raise it up a little, but I'd rather not have to completely rewire the trailer I just got home, except to put new lights (LED)...

    Its home!

My Dakota really didn't have any problems. I have a V8 and Automatic. I did use the tow/haul button when going up a couple hills, just to help. Do you have a full size Blazer or a S10 Blazer? I'm going to put airbags on my truck to level the trailer out. I'm also going to try and get a hitch...

    Its home!

Brakes are on. And it came with wheel chokes too! One is chained to the trailer. I was hoping for a spare tire, but no joy...

    Its home!

Today was the day! I took just about everything, including the kitchen sink. What I actually used? A few ZIP ties, the tire gauge, to check tire pressure, a bungie cord to tie the trailer power cord down, a pin in the surge brake, and the magnetic lights. Only issue: the magnetic lights turned...

Finally, I get to bring mine home!

Okay, I go to get my trailer tomorrow, so: 1. Picture posted showing, I guess, a rim, I can't see yet due to web page issues. So I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at. 2. What length of chain should I have with me? From the pictures from GL, the safety chain looks long enough, I'm...

Finally, I get to bring mine home!

So, who lives in the Tacoma, WA area? Still need to know where to find these pins....

Finally, I get to bring mine home!

Thanks for the advice on the chain. About how long of chain should I have? Foot? 2 foot? Do you know where I can get the pin(s) to disable to surge brakes? And turn this in to a tilt bed after I remove the bolts?
