And the award for reviving an old thread goes to...... lol I'm looking at 95 Chevy with the 6.5 turbo diesel that has the parts I need to swap to my M1008. Hopefully it will work out....... btw, good thread with a lot of useful info :)

    Lift!

A factory type 4 leaf set with the slight negative arch will give around 3.5in of lift.... it will also ride better than any aftermarket lifted spring. The spring shop did the same factory 4 leaf set up on my M1008 and the 79K20. Both of them ride great....

My "Go anywhere" M1010 mobile office/camper build.

Exactly.... I'm not brave enough to put a turbo on my 6.2. I'll just leave it the way it is... I do like the build of the M1010... very interesting.

    Value of 1986 CUCV M1008

There was an M1008 fully restored listed on Craigslist in the Atlanta area initially for 12K. Sat there for a few months and the owner kept gradually lowering the price. It listed 9K a few weeks ago and disappeared off of Craigslist. Dunno if someone bought it or the owner decided to take it...

    Value of 1986 CUCV M1008

You were selling that?? Btw, some of the prices I've seen recently on CUCV's have gotten insanely high. I bought mine last summer for a lil under 4K. Haven't seen one listed anything close to it since then.

    Opinions on M1009 Tires

I ran BFG KM2 33x10.5x15 on a 74 K10. No rubbing anywhere and I never came close to getting stuck.

    Towing capacity for M1009

Personally, I would be more concerned with pulling that much weight with a short wheel base. Yeah it will pull it, but trying to safely stop it during an emergency situation could get dicey real quick.

Starter and Alternator problems two questions

Bear in mind that by changing to a 12v you will lose the cold weather starting power of the 24v system......

    M1008 Rear Leaf Spring..

Can't find that part number, so I'm assuming it's going to be 22-617...

    Lack of power at speed.

Might be the injection pump, lift pump or a combination of both..... The engines aren't powerhouses to begin with, but they're decent when the fuel is working as it should. Mine was having issues with sputtering at speed. Put a fresh fuel filter on and it was a night and day difference.

    M1008 Rear Leaf Spring..

Which part number is the correct replacement spring for an M1008; 22-617 or 22-617HD?

    P400 engines

If I'm correct, you're going to need a custom oil pan if you swap one of those into a CUCV with a stock suspension....

    Cold weather and no start.

Just curious, does your truck have the 12 volt conversion? 22 degrees this morning and my M1008 fired right up. Lol, it took longer to unfreeze the doors so I could get into it.

secret kill switch - security - discourage possible theft?

After having my 79 K20 flatbed truck stolen from my driveway last year, I would say yes. I literally just got it back on the road today after collecting parts to put a stripped engine bay back together. Next is a kill switch and LowJack. I'm not going through that crap again....

    Tire Question

You can run a 255 85 16 on the factory wheels with no rubbing. I put 35's on my m1008 and I need to do a little fender trimming. It'll hardly be noticeable...

Changing the rear springs on my M1031

Got busy with work yesterday..... here's the pics of my 4 leaf set up on the front with a 35in BFG KM2. As I previously mentioned, if it weren't for the 35's the truck would be unbearable to ride in. It had 33's on it when I got it out of the spring shop and the ride was unbearable.

Changing the rear springs on my M1031

To be honest I really don't know. A local spring shop ordered the factory 3 leaf set up for a diesel and then added another leaf if I remember correctly. The front springs barely have a negative arch now. I can take a pic of it tomorrow when it's daylight.....

Best way to lift on a budget

Yes and yes..... I run 33x10.5x15's on my 74 K10 with sagging springs and no issues with tire rubbing at all. I highly recommend a 33x10.5x15.....
