Diamond Diesel sells OEM seal kits for the DB2 pumps. They're about $100 for a kit. I don't know anywhere you can get individual parts, maybe John Deere. They used a lot of DB series pumps on their engines.

If you want on engine hoses that last, you'll need to use high temp rated hose such as Parker 206 or 426 or Aeroquip FC234. These hoses are great for oil and diesel fuel and do ok with hot water.

You program the VFD to the motor so your 1.5 HP motor could be damaged if the VFD tries to run it as a 20 HP motor. The VFD also does some condition monitoring and may trip if it sees the motor circuit open as the relays change over. You could probably disable this.
Coolant recovery is surprisingly unimportant. When the system is at its hottest, the system will be full. We know this from off-road motorcycles. Of course, who wants to waste coolant finding a that perfect level.
