I NEVER believe the odometer on ANY truck from the mid-80s showing less than 25K miles. On a rare occasion, the miles are correct and lower than that, but often the odometer has turned over at least once. 2200 miles on a 25 year old truck? Hard to believe. I would need to see pics of things...

HNDRSONJ, I agree. I doubt it will happen because of the rare bed. I especially hope it won't happen because of the same rare bed. Cutting a deuce that is a fairly common vehicle is one thing; cutting up a rare bed is another.
Does it have the direct drive or overdrive transmission? If it has the latter, take out the overdrive transmission and install a direct drive transmission. You will lose some top speed (max speed will be about 46 MPH). On one hand, it sucks being able to ONLY drive at 46 MPH (now thinking...
Will they help load it? If not, you will need a Landoll or a step-deck, preferably a Landoll so the trucker can just winch the truck onto the trailer. Since you are only 66 miles away, you should be able to get the truck delivered for a few hundred bucks. Do a GOOGLE search for truck towing...
I have a friend who is in the Army Reserves and is also a SS member (he does not get online often). Anyway, he said that his unit has many CUCVs that they are still using. They have not received any word to turn them in and they are the main truck that they use on a daily basis.
Maybe, as part of the bail out of the auto industry, our politicians are working with the big three auto manufacturers on this so we are forced to buy new trucks.

As long as its not my money :wink:, I vote for the purchase of a civilian 20 ton tag along low boy. The 20 tonners have air brakes. They are not cheap, though. You can get a new one in the $15K range.
Use any good name brand 15W40 oil. I have used Rotella, Mobil Delvac, Pennzoil, Valvoline, and others. I buy what's on sale as long as it is a good name brand. If all else is equal, I like Rotella, Delvac and Pennzoil in that order.
With regard to the trucks that go for $1000-1500, do the math. With trucking rates at $2/mile (higher than when I got my truck home almost nine years ago), and I bet the shipping rates have also gone up, I bet I would be looking at $7500 to get a truck home (HI to MD). Do the math for your own...
