If you need to check out trucks, be sure to come over to Ft. Lewis on Saturday for Armed Forces Day. There should be a wide variety of vintage iron for you to see.
Scott if you didn't pick them up already, I have a couple of US Army tapes for your uniform. Will put them in the glove box so I don't forget them. With the help of a couple of buddies, got the top on the cargo bed today for the first time. I think it is a newer top, so may be able to adjust...
What projects are going on your truck? I still have an unfound air leak. I was wondering why the airtank would lose pressure so quickly after shutting down the engine. I had to work today and by the time I got home it was too wet to crawl under the monster to look for the leak again.
How did you come out at the military shops? the surplus stores have bins of bdu caps, that would be a good source. I don't think I have ever seen a size 8, in any hat. Have seen a few 7 3/4's. Been beating on the 5 T trying to get that last top bow in. the one I had was warped, so turned it...
What unit is your truck marked for? From the living history point of view, the idea is to be as accurate as possible. But none of us had all the stuff when we started out and the scarcity of some items has caused us to have to go with reproduction items to round out an impression.
As for an...
This is a reminder that Ft. Lewis will be hosting an Armed Forces Day celebration on May 21, 2011, from 0900 to 1800. There will be plenty of current issue vehicles and equipment as well as historical vehicles and equipment on display. There are things to do and see for all members of the...
Do have the issues that make it go and stop worked out. Injectors and IP have been rebuilt, old fuel seems to be gone and am putting in new fuel as budget allows. Now it is the small stuff like wipers and cosmetics. Will try to put the cargo cover on it this weekend for the first time, so it...
For a heads up, you will find that everyone in this group will be appropriately unformed up for the period that they are representing. Right now it looks like we will be wearing Chocolate chip uniforms. My truck was an 80 Ord BN. truck and the 80th had DS time. We will also be doing a ground...
What ever works best for you. We will be meeting up with the Friends of Willie and Joe group, so the WW2 rigs will lead and we will follow up. I really like to pull rear guard with the 5T. With a small jeep on the interstate, people will come right up on you at 70. With the 5T, they pull...
right now it looks like we will be pulling out of the Martin Way Park n ride at 0715. think that is exit 109 I-5. We will be going in the Dupont Gate. Will be leaving my house about 0615
don't think I saw my name on the list, but am planning on being there with something. depends on what is running at the time. Right now, 5 out of 7 are running.
Yes sir. That is the current plan less mechanical issues. Got it out and up to 50 last weekend, but is seems to cruise pretty well about 45. Will be seeing about getting the cargo top on it next weekend on Sunday. the sticky brakes seemed to have cleared up with some tool oil applied to the...
This truck has the LDS 465-1A engine and I think someone said this is the small turbo? does yours have the large turbo? That may be a bit of a difference. This is a 1968 and maybe there were gearing differences. I am satisfied with a solid 45 MPH.
Contact Kate at MWR Ft. Lewis. Her number is 253 967 5776.
I know members of the NW Vehicle club will be there, Friends of Willie and Joe, and Friends of Kilroy.
It looks like we will have about 3 to 6 people and about that many vehicles doing a display for Desert Storm. We have been...
It will be at AFD at Ft. Lewis on May 21, representing the 80th Ordnance and their participation in Desert Storm, 20 years ago. There is a possibility that that this truck went over.
Time for an update. Injectors were serviced as previously reported. Injector pump was taken out and sent for a rebuild. It does start nice and purrs now. the fuel return line also had a kink in it and a couple of other lines including one injector line were also replaced.
I took it up to...
My 5T had the fluid changed from DOT5 to DOT3 and it probably got no more than 200 miles in 9 years. When we pulled a brake drum off, there was corrosion on the surface and the wheel cylinders were rusty inside. All the brake parts were new with less than 200 miles. I changed the fronts and...
