We used Fastenal store-to-store shipping to get an engine (Deutz) and transmission from CA to OH and for 775lbs on a pallet it was $275.
No problems and I would recommend their service. It isn't overnight but SS members aren't known for wanting to spend a lot of money. ;-)
I asked Gimpy to put a new spin-on oil filter and gear-reduction starter onto my XM813.
Both very nice. It starts with two low voltage batteries and it starts faster now.
Funny, that's almost exactly the same way I did my XM813 last year. Right in the corner next to the driver's seat so I see it every time I get into the truck. I only keep fluid in it up to the top of the clear tubing, don't need to fill the reservoir.
BeefCo is the major surplus company run by a Kansan with subsidiaries all around the US providing warehousing and distribution of just about anything for anyone. SS members are priority customers.

Why not just let it run all the time? If I were to put one on the back of my truck it would either be on the master power so it runs all the time or on a switch that I controlled manually. No sense in making it more complicated and besides, I want to see the car I might roll back on that pulls...
I have one for sale but it's in Ohio and although I'm not trying to sell it to you I point it out that the last one I sold was driven 1,200 miles home. :-)
I am sure there are some trucks within range of Deland.
Big difference between a M1008 and the other trucks.
I know where Deland is but you need to put your state in as it is a rule.
(I helped put in some of the stuff in the 911 PSAP in Deland many years ago.)
The newer 5-tons are the flavor of the month but even they are being replaced by the even sexier LMTVs.
If you want something that's fun to drive, manual transmission and steering then get a Deuce. Plus it will run on waste motor oil.
If you want something that's fun to drive, manual...
I had the same problem looking up the spring on the side of the injection pump of my Cummins 250, but I guarantee that after I found it I won't forget how or where it is in the manual.
