I would by one if it worked both ways. My Seabees truck is 12 volt and it would be nice to tow 24 volt trailers with it

The idea of adding a 12 volt plug to charge a cell phone or iPod is not going to hurt anything due to the very low draw. You want to draw 13 amps which is much larger of a draw and I would not draw that off of one battery.

That is a good way to cook your trailer brakes. The duece brakes are very small. My guess is that a modern class 8 truck has more brakes on one axle then the entire duece.
