I thought about this because I had a few spare M105 axles lying around. I came to the conclusion that it was just too much trouble. First, as has already been mentioned, is the height issue. Another thing is getting the brakes and suspension worked out.
One more thing I found out is that unless...
Personally, I think a Jeep is too small. I think a 1/2 ton truck is about the smallest thing I'd want to pull a M105.
It could go wrong real fast if you have to emergency brake.
It will be hard on any rubber parts in the system and also dissolve any gunk in the system.
I fear this will have the same results as Wreckerman's paint thinner. I personally wouldn't run it.
I know of a market for the waste methanol. If you want to make some cash, send me a PM.
I'm not familiar with the NTC-300 but any 855 Cummins swap is pretty straight forward. You may have to swap the front cover on the 300 with the one off your 250 and maybe stuff like your fan and such but it's pretty much a bolt on conversion. Only other thing is you're going to have to make room...
Improve HP- Not much without spending a bunch of money. Adding a turbo is about the cheapest route.
Go 55mph- Find a hill and drive down it. All joking aside, A M816 will go 55mph but it struggles to do it on level ground because of the weight to power ratio. See "improve HP".
Better MPG-...
Check the shear pin first. It could be broke but there could still be enough resistance in the coupling to spool in the line without load. The motor on these things are massive so I'd say it's unlikely it broke.
Hyd motors don't pump, pumps do that. If you screw up your winch motor the crane...
Any diesel can run away. Some are more prone to it than others though. I'd say electronically controlled engines are the least likely. 6.2 engines aren't particularly likely and I've never heard of it happening.
Any mechanical IP has a governor inside and that governor can stick. Most often...
I'm in the process of making a deal on a MEP-002 and have been reading up on them here and in the TMs. The question I have is about idling. I know you're not supposed to idle the gensets and what happens when you do. I have some reservations taking a cold diesel engine, starting it, and then...
They reportedly solved the fire problem on the newer switches. I also think some members came up with a mod but the thread escapes me at the moment. A search for "push button switch" should turn something up.
After dealing with my fire I don't think I even want one of the newer ones. There is...
Yea I had one and thought it was the coolest thing until it almost burnt my truck to the ground.
I still like it over the 3-lever but to me it isn't worth the risk.
The hardest part is getting the wires bent over the plug where they will stay so you can get the nut started. It just takes time (and a little cussing).
You don't have to have the special tools to assemble one. It is a pain in the rear though.
I've done it on a deuce and I'd imagine a 5-ton would be that much harder.
I had a load of gravel delivered out to a jobsite awhile back. When the dumptruck driver threw open the door to talk to me I noticed his left leg was completely gone. I got to talking to him and he had installed a hand clutch somehow. He spread that load of rock as smooth as anybody. he worked...
You'll have to deal with the 24v light issue towing a civilian trailer. Easiest thing would be to either change out the bulbs to 24v on the trailer if it's dedicated to the M931 or go with the dual voltage LEDs if the trailer will still be pulled by a civilian truck from time to time.
A regular...
Yes, use inserts.
There seems to be some confusion in terminology here. The ferrule is the compression part on the outside of the line and cannot be reused. The insert can be reused and goes inside the line so the ferrule doesn't crush it when assembled. You can reuse the insert but will have...
I assume you have a M939 truck?
I'm not really understanding what your problem is but I'd say it's a linkage problem if it's not going into the gear you select. The transfer case high and low is also tied into the gear shift linkage and can sometimes cause shift troubles going into reverse if...
If you can find a drum lock handle, you can fix the pin. Just drill and tap the end of the pin and insert a piece of all-thread. I've fixed many broken pins this way.
I've done it for local friends and family that don't know how to deal with GL or don't use computers. To be honest, it's a pain in the rear and I've all but quit doing it. I'd rather just help them by walking them trough the process and let them bid on a account in THEIR name.
One problem is...
