Have you considered a engine swap? Advanced Adapters has a the stuff to mount a Chevy engine in your truck. You could buy the adapter and a new small block Chevy cheaper than you can rebuild that old 230 and have money left over. Unless it's for show purposes to keep everything stock, I don't...
Most of the places that have gaskets, the gaskets are used as shims for the bearings. The bearings will be too tight if you use RTV. I always make my own out of gasket material. Some places can require several gaskets to get the proper clearance.
We always pack (with grease) our oil hubs on civilian trucks. It takes a little time for the oil to get there from the pumpkin, in the mean time your bearings are running dry if not packed. The grease and oil mix won't hurt a thing.
If it's just leaking around the flange, you may just have a bad flange gasket or it's not uncommon for the bolts to be loose. I'd check my bearings while I had the axle out also.
There is a gasket on the axle flange but RTV will work fine.
Another problem with the M939 trucks if if they have sat idle for a long time, the brakes can stick on them. Usually all it takes to get them unstuck is a good solid hit on the drum with a hammer. The problem is that you can't hardly get a good swing at it. I always carry a long bar and a sledge...
I really don't see how locking a fuel tank would keep somebody from stealing fuel. If I was stealing fuel from a MV (even if the cap was open), I'd either just take out the drain plug or punch a hole in the bottom of the tank. That way I wouldn't need a pump or a siphon hose and risk getting a...
I can let it be known now that the trailer was sold at a local auction today. I went to bid but it was too rich for my blood. I think it ended at $3,500. It was a nice trailer though.
They also had several other MVs and equipment. All went high. A M35A3 WW with bad trans and worn out tires...
If you have a tractor or another slow moving vehicle (you could even use the deuce going slow), tie the tank to the wheel after you fill it with gravel and go for a ride. It will be clean in no time. Just don't do this and drive down the road at high speed.
I'd say a bolt in the M936 winch would be fine. The hyd motor will only power the winch to about 1/2 capacity anyway so I don't think the motor has enough power to tear up the winch even if it wanted to.
