I suggest you get it hauled. There are plenty of trucking companies. PM me for a list of #s. With all of these trucks being driven out, many without tags or insurance, driving these trucks out is a disaster waiting to happen. A couple of lawsuits later, and this hobby will have been changed...
My belief is inline with what a few others have stated earlier...if it is an approved military modification, I am fine with it. If not, it does not go on my trucks. That is my belief and I stick to it. I don't like bobbed trucks and I am not into modified trucks in any way shape or form...
Contact Idaho motorpool. Shipping will be pricey from anywhere else. I doubt you will find an NOS hood and if you do it will be costly. Just look for good take-out parts. Good luck!
Don, post the pics and prices for the M813s. They are going pretty high on GL right now due to ol' 8500! I don't want to quote prices, but the numbers I heard were very reasonable. Your asking prices sounded near what many are bringing on GL...except you got them home and took the risks!
I am not sure that it will add power, but it should. I do know that it will work fine, though. Kenny's old M275A2 that he got from me had a 5 ton turbo on it...and that was a screamer!
Check with David Doyle. I believe he will point out the following (or something close to it):
Many manufacturers made trucks before Kaiser
Kaiser made trucks up until some time in 1970
General Products made trucks until 1971 some time
AM General made trucks after that
I don't have the exact...
KAISERPOWER: If your truck is truly a 1972 model, then it is definitely not a KAISER. It is an AM General truck. You may have to change your screen name...except that name is taken by Brandon. :-D No big deal as many of the trucks have come out with anything from incorrect years to incorrect...
Maybe the answer to this question should be obvious. If so, I missed it. Why go through all of this trouble to create an M813 when you could just buy one? HEADWIZARD has trucks for sale...or so I was told...and they are in VA. I am not sure what your time is worth, nor do I know what you...
You can't tell the age of the truck by the grill because it could have been replaced, but the earliest grills were the tubular grills. I like the flat stock type grills better, but I just kept an M814 with the tubular grill over one with the flat stock type....it was a nicer truck.
Whenever I wanted a new truck, my Dad, now deceased, used to say, "Why don't you pretend you did (buy it), but don't!" This saying applies to any 10 ton! I've owned one and they are not for the faint of heart. They are much cooler to look at than drive. Make sure you know what you are in...
Man, Chris, don't tempt me! I hope someone jumps on that truck! That truck is a great buy. I'd be all on it if I did not have so many pokers in the fire right now. Just got another today...I'll leave everyone in suspense!
Very nice truck. Good luck with the restoration! I see the truck has the older style box seat. I actually like them better than the air-ride (actually spring-ride) driver's seat.
Brandon (AMGENERAL) is the guy to talk to about Mack-powered trucks! He has more miles in them than I do...that's for sure!
The guy in Camilla, GA is Jessie Bostick (229-221-0969). He is a really nice guy.
Joe, you have your work cut out for you, but it sounds like it will clean up nicely. As you pointed out, most of what is missing is not wrecker specific so your hunting should be a bit easier. Good luck with the truck and let me know if I can help or answer any questions. I've owned three A2s...
