If you're looking for a power modification to a V71 or V92 engine, I'd actually recommend a guy I've talked to from the Bus Conversion world: Don Fairchild. He comes highly recommended from all the people I've talked to, I invite you to do some checking too, as always YMMV and it's been years...
Yeah, I was worried that it was a bit much
If your engine is turbo'd it probably has the aftercooler under the roots blower. The general consensus from after market modifiers is that you can remove the aftercooler, then install an intercooler in front of the radiator. This cools the...
This'll get a bit more involved -and probably makes some people's eyes glaze over...
When the exhaust valves open there is a pressure wave that exits the cylinder most of the increased pressure in the cylinder is lost very fast, in fact the pressure should be slightly negative in the cylinder...
And you can look to current events too - Middle East, Africa, places where peace is not the norm, the quality of life is much lower than places where peace (or measured covert warfare) is the norm.
13 chapters of shear awesome - apply it in any facet of life: business, pleasure, warfare - it's all about kicking your opponent's rear-end while not losing yours. Everything from state of mind, general concepts of planning, and information gathering and misdirection. It can become a lifestyle :)
I guess the other important thing to point out is that an engine is a "system of systems", so making a change to one system without thining about the impact the all of the other systems is a recipe for a short engine life. :)
It's as efficient as a 2-stroke diesel :). That said as low revs there is hardly enough to spool a turbo, on my stock 6V92 in my bus it won't spool until 1400RPM - but it will eventually spool (this is turbo sizing). When combustion happens in an I.C.E., there is expansion beyond the volume...
It doesn't take long for the aftermarket and racing people to pick up a few books on thermodynamics in diesel engines to figure out how to squeeze a bunch more HP out. As with any I.C.E., it's basically an air pump with a combustion stage in the middle (really simple in principal). It's that...
There are many variants T, TA, TTA - some have water after-coolers (after the roots scavenging blower), some don't. Marine engines are rated higher since they use the ocean as the cooling system. The real reason they get so much bang from the engine is that it's a two-stroke - every downward...
I got the tentative "OK" from insurance, but they did let me in on a new change that is coming down their pipe, they are capping modifications to $5,000 - so just my engine and Transmission change would put me over that. I'm asking more questions to figure out what that actually means, but I'm...
I haven't forgotten about this thread. Work has picked up and the kid on the way has made the better half more particular about how I'm spending my time marking things off the honey-do list. I'm currently in a discussion with my insurance carrier about the stretch, I want to ensure that the...
Hose is to the ejector from the pre-cleaner, they use a Donaldson cyclonic pre-cleaner before the air filter, it is more effective and efficient than earlier types. The flow of the exhaust gas creates an evacuation air flow in the pre-cleaner which never sees the filter, and carries the bigger...
And since you didn't get hurt take a moment to just laugh about this - think of how terrifying it was to have that big beast of a diesel engine out of your control in such proximity to you. That real butterfly in the stomach feeling is hard to replicate with movies  (I'll bet you had...
Renodogs, I think a point you are missing here is that the US Government via the US military originally fielded these trucks, not state government, and not a private party. There are exceptions at the Federal level (read as "act of Congress") for military vehicles as operated for the purposes...
Not quite an HET, but I have a bus-conversion with a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA (two fewer cylinders than your HET's 8V92T), it gets 7.5MPG down hill with a tail wind @ 26,001lbs (empty). I think if I put more in there, that number would go up (of course uphill would suffer then).
Get it...
Learn Ground Pressure:
An average person exerts roughly 8-psi on the ground when standing still (two feet down). An M35 weighs roughly 14,000lbs, and with 10 tire patches on the ground (roughly assume 1-square-foot per patch), with exert in the neighborhood of 10-psi. If you get out of your...
Truck ain't a boggin' Jeep :) - heavy trucks with small footprint tires will put a lot of PSI on the ground in small patches, Soft or sandy soil should be avoided, and if you can't don't make hard turns but carry speed into your approach. On softer than hard gravel, lock in your front, and...
