    M1028 w/ no idle

There are seals on the throttle shaft that can be replaced. However, if those seals are shot and your fuel lines are shot. Chances are the inside of the pump which is the same age is also shot. You will be time, money and frustration ahead by just getting a new IP, replacing every rubber hose...

Smooth in park/neutral, rough in drive

How does your exhaust sound? Can you put your ear next to either tail pipe and get a smooth sound or is it skipping and not really a constant beat? I have 3 6.2 trucks here at my house right now. Two of them are smooth as glass at all times and have a very constant sounding exhaust at each...

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

No, no pictures. I have access to a retired gentleman that has worked on electrical stuff all his life. His "retirement" is to use hi one car garage. He is not fast, pays attention to detail and puts in the best parts he can find. I have pulled many starters apart and gotten them to work...

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

The solenoid was a new last summer Delco. Fully charged batteries with no slow start conditions. Thanks for the pictures.

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

I really hesitated to write anything in the post above besides how to cut off just the starter. Here is why: If your batteries go down while the truck is just sitting, something somewhere in the truck is shorted to ground and needs to be fixed. Fix the drain. If you add a pair of moveable...

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

Depends which you want to do. If you just want protection from a run away starter. Put in the recommended starter relay under the dash spoken about in the doghead relay threads. If you want to stop the starter from spinning in a run away like mine, then a cut off switch between the big...

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

The starter guy called yesterday. The solenoid had "severe arcing" inside it. That was the problem. Of course, the bushings and brushes needed to be replaced because the darn thing ran for a few minutes straight. Just wanted to finish this one out.

    Onboard Air?

The M35 and up trucks have constant air for trailer emergency brake applications in case there is a break away situation. Just screw a quick connect fitting into a trailer side glad hand that can be found at any truck stop or NAPA and you have air for tools or tire inflation. Most trucks also...

    Onboard Air?

The Yorks? They have their own sump and pump. There is a line plug that can be done to make it better. Here is a site that talks you through the process pretty good: York Compressor for On-Board Air I put a York on my M715 back in 2005. M35 air tanks under the bed. I even ran lines with...

When I beep my horn the dash starts smokin'

Check the ground on the bracket for the parking brake. That ground controls just about everything under the dash in some form or other. Can you hear the horn relay clicking when you push the button? If all that checks out, put a test light in the horn wire at the horn and see if power is...

    K5 front D/S vs M1009 front D/S

A stock M1009 will have a 3.08 gear ratio and the gov loc rear. Try the truck off road before you do much to it. You will be amazed at how well it works once you put the tcase in 4 low. I love the off road performance. If you don't like the way it is or feel the need to power your way...

    Strange "Chirp" Sound...

If it is happening with the truck sitting still. That means you have narrowed it down to what is moving at that time. Check your power steering pump bolts. There should be 3 that are behind the pulley. If they get loose, they will rub on the pulley and make weird noises. Or, just fall out...

How to get my 6.2 to run more smoothly?

Yep, check your balancer, replace if the rubber is coming off or missing. Now, going down the road. Especially in town or on roads with walls, the single exhaust echo on the drivers side only gives you half the exhaust note and it sounds kind of off. After that, you are down to injectors...

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

I do not know the cause yet. I did drive it to work this morning and the volt meter was where it should be. The truck will get driven today and maybe tomorrow. Then I will bring it into my class for my students to do ball joints, tie rod ends, front u-joints, turn the rotors and such all in...

    Trailer rack exensions

I don't have a measurement of how tall I went. I actually cut down some M35 up rights and bows. I will try to get a tape measure on the center of the bows tonight.

Runaway Starter, but different with what wires not to pull

Some back ground first. Direct Drive 27MT 24 volt starter. Rebuilt by a very good rebuilder a year ago next week after it wouldn't turn the engine anymore. Basically all internal parts new. New solenoid with "24V" stamped in the side of it. I have never let the starter turn more than 5...

    Trailer rack exensions

Yes, that is a CUCV cargo cover. They are the only one with zippers. I use one for camping in a 101 with extended uprights and a 101 top on the 101 for hauling stuff.

    deuce flat tow question

Ok. Roll all the windows up, close the valence vents and open the front windshields about 3 inches. As long as you stay above 30mph, you will not be hot. Bring lots of water to drink because constant air blowing on your face will dry you out real fast. I have driven a M109 across I-10 in West...

    deuce flat tow question

The question that brought this thread back from the dead was can a 1 ton truck flat tow a M35? Yes it can. Can it be done with highway speeds? No. Is it safe? No. I don't understand your anger. You asked a question and some of us that have been there and done that answered. Yet, you...

    rain water in exhaust

Mermite can inserts fit great. Leave dents when you start the truck and forget to remove them though. Best cover I have read about is 2 liter soda jugs cut to a snug fit over the pipe. If you forget, they don't leave dents in what they fly into.
