They are a obvious “field” mod. The holes for the hold down bolts where drilled into the side of the tray. The retainers are not the same 383 green as the gen set. Don't have any idea what they came from but they where with the set when I picked it up. The set did come with the 2 2HN installed...
I got mine at the local Battery Warehouse. Don't remember the the price. They where more than the Wally world but I didn't have to adapt anything and they look stock. Just my preference.
DO NOT IDLE THESE UNITS, it will cause the voltage regulator burn up. When starting they should come up to speed right away. I had a partial blockage in the fuel line from the pickup that kept mine from running. The lever you asked about is for the oil pan heating baffle. There are some manuals...
The other two sockets "C" & "D" are not tied to either "A" or "B" . The switch is a double pole single throw. The easiest thing might be to use a "28V Military Vehicle Low Air Warning Light Kit" . Has everything except the mount bracket. You can use the "Y" cable in the kit to tie into the lead...
Also the separate cab / body doesn't limit you to just a pickup for the life of the truck. You can change it to a flatbed, utility body or dump just to mention a few.
