Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Yes, I can attest to the fact that the replacement rings come in a pack and two of them are marked "TOP", two are not and it made me very nervous when I put mine on. I also noticed that in the original military pack, oil paper and all, the rings were NOT all in the right orientation as a set. I...

Chirping sound when engine warms up

I'd check all the belt driven accessories. Air compressor can chirp, too. One way is to un-do (i.e. loosen) all belts and listen if the sound is still there.

    hauling dirt with 2.5 ton

My guess is that they anticipated that the truck would be loaded until the material spilled over the side extensions, regardless of what any manual suggested you do. They made the bed narrower to limit Soldier A's ability to FUBAR. We all know that you can't eliminate this ability.

Got my first Deuce today! Now time for an engine rebuild

Good on you for asking this forum before you jump in hip-deep. If I were to buy a "running takeout" again, I would buy it for a direct swap - meaning, I would not be willing to having to rebuild anything on that engine. As such, I would specifically look for a "TD" marked block (thick deck) that...

I finally got "Bruce" home. This newbie is pretty excited

Wow..you may want to think long and hard about removing it all. Someone went through quite some work to get a hydraulic system onto this truck...and PTO powered, no less. That means, you have 60% of the setup for a hydraulic dump bed (just make your bed dump) and 60% of the setup (with a...

    Cold Starting

Any standard ether start can will fit. NAPA or truck stop (although the newer trucks no longer use ether start systems). Tractor supply might have them, too. You should be able to identify the ether start solenoid the can screws into (can stands upside down) and there is a bracket to hold it in...

    Longer wheel studs

Could it be that the LEFT (driver) side lug nuts/lug bolts have a tendency to come loose? The Deuce has LH threads on the LEFT (driver) side, whereas the RIGHT (passenger) side has standard RH threads. I only remember offhand because my memory aid to loosen lug nuts on the Deuce is to turn the...

    fuel injector tube tee

Wow...you really beat that thingy into submission! I bet the other injectors will think twice about getting stuck! At least you got it out.

I looking for pictures of deuce and a half in the first gulf war/desert storm/shield

Wow that second one is a fire truck (M530?)...with paperclips (cut off)..and what looks like a skinny exhaust from the non-turbo engine. That is an exciting, lightning-speed ride with a heavy trailer!

    got her home

Nice truck. From Kublos? I like trhe extended air intake. Obviously, you will want to retrofit the 9.00-20 NDT tires, so let me know when you want me to pick up those 395' that you won't be needing!

Got her running If you hand throttle it throttles up gas pedal it dies

That is strange because when you follow the hand throttle cable, it attaches to the same cable that the foot pedal operates.

DOT 5 Brake Fluid Color Loss/Degrading

DOT 5 loses its purplish colour after a while. You need to take a sample and do the water test (water will not mix with DOT 5).

Deuce ran for 20 min then quit wont restart for days then repeat all over

There's a troubleshooting flowchart in the TM. Pressure from the lift pump is good but is it sustained? Gunk in the tank clogging the pickup? Soft in tank rubber hose collapsing? Vent issue? The fuel filler cap is unvented. Perhaps the tank vent line is clogged.

    M108 deuce wrecker engine swap

Unless you are super pressed for time, I suggest to unbolt and remove the winch as well. You already need to disconnect the winch shaft. The winch sticks up really high and you can easily catch (and break) the engine mounts or smack the oil pan on the darn thing.

3 or 4 finger pressure plates

3-finger is the newer design, if I am not mistaken.

M109 - can we extend the box?

I do not have an M109 but I think I have read next to all M109 RV conversion threads on here, because it is something that fascinates me. Perhaps you need to go see an M934 and evaluate what modern materials (spray foam insulation, styrofoam glue-on insulation panels etc.) can do for you...

New liners/pistons... Honing and other questions

Here is my five cents: I cut as liner-sized hole into some 1/2 inch plywood to hold the liner securely. In the first pic, the liner is actually stuck in that hole in the plywood. I held a can of WD-40 in one hand and sprayed into the liner, then honed with a power drill and the attached hone in...
