Here is what I was seeing: You could flat-tow the Deuce that has tranny issues with the hood-less deuce that runs. Think of the good things about that! Less chance for overheating (no hood), and you immediately see any engine leaks developing. Oh, keep the windshield closed.
J- pipe mod on the...
Had a similar issue. Backed bottom adjusters up all the way. Adjusted top for slight drum drag. Drove truck. Re-adjusted to specs. Not sure what the issue was. Maybe aftermarket brake shoes not exactly matching. Next step would have been pulling drums again to see if shoe slipped off adjuster.
"Dirt" - i.e. top soil, organic layer with a bit of sand etc. - if not obviously wet, you should run out of room before you run out of carrying capacity. With 5 yards loaded, the Deuce looks visibly full, with a mound in the middle and halfway to 2/3 up the sides, and you will be at or around...
I can tell you that this is the boarding ladder for the CCKW. It has six treads and is 66 1/2 inches long. The data plate of the MX-3391G aluminum ladder also has a DSA number. These numbers were used from 1962 to 1977, Dr. Google says. Makes sense; CCKWs saw a long service, often overseas.

Can't help but give kudos to USMCWARWAGON, the "newbie" Deuce owner who enthusiastically tears into the hydraulic head within minutes of owning his first deuce. That is a place where some grown men fear to tread! I see a lot of optimism!
:grd:
I second that. There is one wire you need to run to the newly installed coolant thermostat (so the solenoid does not fire unless the coolant is cold enough) and the dash switch and wiring are re-purposed. Kit comes with new dash plate.
Oh, it is still under warranty, then! :naner:
The hour meter and mileage are a hint at best. The gauges get swapped too often to be reliable indicators. In your case, the average speed from mileage and hours would have been under 3mph over the life of the truck. Impossible? No. An insane amount...
Good thought, actually. The aircooled VW flat fours have a serviceable oil strainer. The old engines had an oil drain plug in the center of the lid that holds that strainer in. Guess what people did! They took the drain plug out, drained the oil, put the plug back in and re-filled the oil...
:goodjob: Are you sure you found "ALL" the zerks? :-PThere are some amazing ones on this truck that you probably won't find without the lubrication order. I think - and someone will correct me - that there are 142 zerks on a deuce w/w. I have not greased the one for the pintle hitch and I have...
Extra as in OEM new, as in fresh overhaul with tags in a crate or a loose takeout in unknown condition sliding around in the back of the truck before you got it? Big difference. Some info and pics would probably help.
Maybe check out this thread as a starting point: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?123904-Deuce-wont-start-without-ether
Maybe the "near-new" hydraulic head is not accurately timed: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?80138-No-idle-but-runs-at-1400
Has anyone replaced the stock American Bosch injection pump with an off-the-shelf alternative? I know for myself to not mess with the injection system too much; I see it as a finely balanced system between the injectors and the pump. I am just wondering whether another mechanical diesel...
There is no doubt that the M35s were designed and built at a time where a larger margin was added to carrying capacity. Anyone driving current OTR or dump/offroad trucks will tell you that this era has passed (and "stock" trucks ordered without extra this and extra that for added capacity are at...
Yes, it is possible. The military thought it would be better to have two soldiers operating it. Alone, you need to be as smart or smarter than two soldiers.
Do not even touch the winch until you have read and understood how it works and what the (simple) controls do. Try the controls with the...
OD_coyote, thanks for starting this build thread! This truck is well worth restoring.
I am a sucker for threads with lots of pictures and weekly updates (no pressure).
Your engine started out as an LD and had the turbo kit (clean air kit) added at a later date. This is common. Your engine block is a "TD" thick deck block, which, amongst other things, has a stronger, more warp-resistant surface where the cylinder heads sit.
All of this is desirable; the actual...
