Either. The trans/transfer assy will be on the ground, if you are rebuilding the trans, the rebuilder will appreciate if you have the adapter off already. -

This was a WWII thing for the most part, and when found on ground vehicles, was symbols painted on tank barrels.- NDT

Sounds like previous owner did zero maintenance and every mechanic to touch it since did not know what they were doing. -
Galvanized Deuce Wheels
If you don’t live anywhere near a galvanizer, zinc rich epoxy primer works almost as well. Still have to sandblast to white metal. Don’t leave rust pits or re-rusting will occur.- NDT

PS pump and steering gear box
The ATF or “power steering fluid” lubes everything inside the steering gear. It may take several flushes to get the water out. Once you have good fluid in there and all bubbles are worked out, the pump should be quiet. -

Gillespie is fine as long as you don't leave the Jeep out in the weather. Which I doubt you will after spending $10,000 on the restoration.- NDT

M38 Hood numbers. Need an experienced eye!
Looking at this again, there should only be 8 numerals. Hard to say, these trucks got repainted very frequently in the 1950's and it's possible you have uncovered numerals from different stencil jobs.- NDT

Humvee 6.5L engine block coolant plug
If your 1025A2 engine is a GEP, maybe that drain is something that AM General fixed that GM did not have set up very well on the GM blocks pre-2000. -

I think it might be 201011575. If so, your hood got switched at some point. I would use what is on the Jeep now, not the calculated number, seems more correct even though it may be wrong.- NDT

I think the spacers are 1/4” x 2”, just to provide a base for the fifth wheel above the frame rivets. -
