Well it looks like it's time for my third dump project. I've got a deuce without a bed and I've found a complete dump setup off of a 5-ton truck. This has got me to thinking, would a dump bed off of a 5-ton fit on a deuce? I haven't personally seen the 5-ton bed. How long is a 5-ton dump bed...
I've got some concerns about a M105 bed being strong enough for a dump. If you'll look at the picks posted, you'll notice that there are no rails running front to back. Seems kind of weak when the bed is lifted into the air. I could be wrong.
The tractor engines are Hercules engines designed and built by Hercules. They are basicly the same engine that is in our trucks minus the multifuel capability. Oliver just decided to use their engine to use it their tractors.
You can hire a truck for around $2. For a full size tractor/trailer a deuce is only 1/2 a load. If you play your cards right maybe you can find a truck that's only 1/2 loaded headed your direction. If everything works out right you may get the price down to $1.
With fuel prices going up...
I have sold a couple without compaints. The guy with the water-jet that was doing my cutting went broke so I never did build but just a few.
I've ran the square tubing by a engineer and he said it is more than strong enough. I've got one that I use personally (it's the first one I built and...
I've loaded a bunch on railcars in my line of work. The bottom line is the railroad can be hard to deal with their regulations. That and the fact that vandals and graffiti artist love sitting railcars. Just the logistics getting it to and from the rail yard can be a pain. The railroad isn't...
Here's one I built- http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/31268-built-me-towbar.html?highlight=towbar .
I've pulled several deuces with this towbar and tried to break it (off road of course) and it holds up fine. It's made with 2X2X1/4 wall tube though. I've even sold a couple but I sell them for...
What Ruppster said is dead on about IFTA. IFTA will actually kick you out of their system if you don't log out of state miles for three consecutive quarters. I deal with IFTA on our commercial trucks we run and it's not something you want to have to deal with if you can help it.
Why would you worry about masking it then?
Running dyed untaxed fuel on-road is tax evasion and will get you hefty fines if caught. It doesn't matter if you are commercial or not. It's the same thing as not paying your income taxes.
Ok, I went and looked at the selection of A2s on GL. It looks like some have the crank legs and some do not. IMO it's not that big of a deal on a M101 but it's almost a must on a M105.
Here's the thread. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/56185-air-over-electric-trailer-brakes.html
There's also a link in the thread that shows a air over electric setup but you still have to deal with the 24v output with it. I think the 24v/12v controler is the way to...
There's a place in Australia that makes an electric brake controler that takes 24v in and outputs 12v to the brakes. I posted the link some time back. I'll see if I can dig it up.
