I double checked. TM-9-2320-209-10 (dated 1965) definitely shows a level wind on the front winch. Page #45, figure #44. So they did in fact make one for the deuce (M44) front winch. The question is, has anybody accually seen one in person.
I wonder why they would have a pic in a M35 manual of a level wind if it wasn't offered though? Guess I'm going to have to download the 209-10 to see it again. I may can get it by next week (dial-up ).
Yea, I read the link you posted but didn't really come to a conclusion. I'll have to admit that some of the stuff they were talking about was over my head. Doesn't almost all DC motors have brushes?
A friend of mine had a 209-10 M35 operators manual and I was thumbing through it today. He was talking to me while I was looking at it but I could have sworn I saw a pic of a front winch with a level wind in there. I ment to look at it some more and got distracted and just now thought about it...
I've got a trailer that I pull with the deuce and also pull it with my civilain Dodge. I'm thinking about adding a winch to it to load disabled vehicles. I've seen people run 12v starters and hyd pumps on 24v without problems so it got me to thinking. Can I run a 12v winch on 24v?
Find somebody that's parted a few trucks. I'm willing to bet they have a bunch of rear axles laying around (rockcrawlers only need two ;)). They can usually be had for $300 or less for the complete axle.
Accually, the Rockwell axles are fairly small for a truck the size of the deuce. They will...
I hope I didn't come off as a a** when I said what I did. I'm just going by experience. I had the bright idea of towing a deuce just a short distance down the road with my 3/4 ton Dodge. I hadn't even made it out of the parking lot when the front wheels went to full lock and jerked the back of...
After going back a re-reading the thread. I take it that you don't already have a deuce or a 5-ton or you wouldn't need the measurements. What are you planning on towing it with? Do not attempt towing with anything less than a 2-ton truck or you will end up in the ditch (or worse).
Kenny, You can say what you want about people modding their own vehicle but I have to admit that the M1009 pics made me want to poke my eyes out. I thought nobody could top the Malibu deuce but this one surely does.
I don't think a M101 is too big in stock form to be pulled by a fullsized...
I'm not sure about the deuce but most turbo hoses are special silicone hoses. The deuce hose looks like one of the silicone hoses. My local NAPA keeps several sizes in stock. Be sure you use the spring type clamps to install.
Any trans shop or junk yard should have the cover if you don't want to rob the one on the PTO. RTV silicone will work fine if you don't have a gasket. I'd go ahead and pull the studs and use bolts for the cover.
