An alternator/starter motor shop could probably service it for you if you don't want to dig into it yourself.
I just found the TM for the starter motor repair. I attached the PDF. I found this referenced in TM9-2320-386-24-1-2 General Support on PDF page 713.
What a load of crap considering the Ohio Motorpool is a thing. I can't think of anyone else here in OH that knows the ins and outs :( You could reach out to the Ohio Motorpool to see if any of them can help you out.
I just found a picture of an M34 in service with the Lebanese Army with an AA gun in the back:
That picture was taken in the early stages of the Lebanese Civil War (~1975). There's a bunch of pictures of American trucks in Mid-East service here: https://milinme.wordpress.com/
I was going to get the M35A3 rear axle seal kits from Big Mike's. I'm not sure if they're repros or surplus, but aside from the extra o-rings they look like M35A2 rear axle seals. I think I watched that same video. The job doesn't look terrible!
I was looking at the pictures on my phone earlier. I agree now it looks like a Chieftain, especially with the looks of the armored skirts. Those are cool tanks!
Does anyone have any recommendations for 3" 8-point sockets? I'm going to be checking wheel bearings this spring and want something good enough that's not going to round off the bearing lock nuts, especially when setting torque.
I learned that's especially true with the jack stands. I was happy when I found out that my 3-ton jack stands could support a rear axle since they sit lower to the ground than the front axle! The 6-ton stands had a lot of extra reach with plenty of detents to spare for the front axle, even...
Maybe he rode in them some time ago!
Once you get your truck on the road, you may find that you'll be getting more attention than while driving muscle cars :p
3/4" drive socket set
Some kind of torque multiplier - at least 3/4" drive
Either a big torque wrench that can torque both left and right, or a small one to use with the torque multiplier
A powerful 1/2" or 3/4" impact wrench
Maybe something to move wheels around with, especially if you plan on...
What do the inserts look like? The ones I reused on my M35A3's wheels had about a single 1.5" wide groove on the inside surface with a hole with a brass sleeve in the groove roughly aligned with the turret valve on the rim:
I've seen people asking between $8k and $12k for M35A3s on Facebook, complete with the cargo bed or as a chassis. These trucks were in driveable condition.
I feel like the M35A3 is the closest thing to buying an MTV without buying an MTV, creature comforts notwithstanding.
(My wife still...
I attached the lube order for your truck. According to page 2, the multifuel takes OE/HDO 30, which I think is 30 wt. Others can probably give you better guidance.
