All 5-tons: Heavy Duty Torque Rod Ends

I planned to drill on the lathe then tap with the mill. Would love to tap on the lathe as well, but no way to have the tap feed in at its own rate on the lathe because the tailstock just has a crank wheel on its end to extend it vs the mill has a pull down spindle depth lever which can let the...

    8.3 Engine Timing Pin

If the flange sits flush with the rear face of the gear housing, can you just rotate the flange so it turns the screw loose? I have done this a zillion times on things. Should be able to if the plastic pin is not there at all anymore?

    8.3 Engine Timing Pin

Pin not required, but handy. You can also find #1 TDC using a self made pointer against the harmonic damper and rocking to each side of TDC with #1 valves cranked down excessively (factory approved method). If you plan to advance the injection timing at all, you would need this method and not...

    Electric Horn Location?

Welcome and congrats. Real trucks have air horns (looking at your sig line). Not sure your mechanic is correct, air horn should also suffice?

    8.3 Engine Timing Pin

Just buy and install a replacement. It is only used when synchronizing injection pump timing. Otherwise, it stays retracted for the most part. Your engine may have been cranked or started when it was left pushed in, and sheared it off. Why are all these things falling off your engine...

All 5-tons: Heavy Duty Torque Rod Ends

I may see if I can buy one of these "floating" tap holding chucks tomorrow when I pick up the tap, if they are not crazy priced. Looks like it is spring loaded (or not) in the tap pressure apply direction, to lessen the direct influence of the spindle handle position. The self-reversing one...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

As long as he read the manual that came with it, he should be all set.

All 5-tons: Heavy Duty Torque Rod Ends

Thanks. Definently open to any and all opinions/advice on this one. YouTube had all sorts off fancy self-reversing heads and drill press depth switches. I don’t have any of that, so I’m just going to run it straight up and see what happens.

All 5-tons: Heavy Duty Torque Rod Ends

11 new torque rod end links just showed up at my desk today. So, tomorrow I am going to pick up a spiral flute tap (?) for the 1/2"-13 threads I am going to cut into the back side center of them for the 6" diameter retention plates. I really don't feel like hand tapping twelve 1/2" holes, just...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It does look good. I don’t even know how to turn an arc welder on.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Oh geez, here comes the welding police in 3..2..1.. “You should not use flux cored post-flow wrong gas mix chrome-moly reverse polarity work hardened spool gun in your weak penetration of underwater basket weaving project!”. Watch... These welding threads always turn into a pen!s contest...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

Your stuff is broke also? This is supposed to be a power thread. Do we need to start a carnage thread? I could go first with some jumped dog bones, maybe a wire harness that had some spontaneous combustion going on...

    problem air in fuel system

Should not be any froth. This means air. A good bleed should only be pure liquid only. Keep working backward until you have fluid only when bled.

Need help hooking up a trolley brake in an M809 series

From looking at the diagram you posted, it will not apply air pressure to your air pack. #20 is the double-check "shuttle" valve NAPA part. Is there a reason you can't simply configure it as your diagram shows?

Need help hooking up a trolley brake in an M809 series

The intricate part about this is the air sent down the service brake trailer pipe needs to be able to bleed off at the same source it came from when released. This is what a double check valve does, it is not just simply two one-way check valves. It is actually a shuttle valve that lets air...

It is all about cool factor at the boat launch. Had to be hydraulic pick and drop, directly at the seawall. Go OP! Post pics as you go so we can drool.
