There are 4 gas shocks in the 4 tubes making 2 assemblies. A real M104x series should have the suppl. shocks already. I here new ones are cheap on fleebay.

My rails are 1/4" steel. I saw some MSG rails, and they were 1/4" steel.

There is a body number. Its not the same number as Vin, but its somewhat close. The things the other guys are telling you will indicate if its a 80's or 90's truck. No number on engine other then cast on date code.
