    Newbie saying hello to all...

How much is overpriced ? Just wondering as I'll be putting mine up for sale soon...I want to be able to pass the giggle test but not give it away either.

If you had $1500 to upgrade a M1009, what would you do?

Yep, sell the 1009, take that money + 1500 and put down on the Tahoe. No matter what you do to the 1009, you'll still have just an old truck. I got the Avalanche rather than the Tahoe, however. Yes, I've owned a deuce (M109 variant) and it , though very dependable, had its issues as well.

    getting discouraged with the CUCV

Yes, it needs more stuff. It has new tires, brakes, belts, hoses, filters. But I still have to charge the air conditioner, put an antenna on it (it has the mount but no antenna), wire this code 3 siren back in, fix the door lock on one side, get a rubber doodad for the brake pedal, replace the...

    getting discouraged with the CUCV

I'll try that leak fix stuff. Maybe it causes the seal to swell up or something. I have to keep the home owners assoc off my case, oil in driveway = bad.

    getting discouraged with the CUCV

Well, OK, I appreciate all the thoughtful replies. There is lots of wisdom there. I don't want to work on it anymore, I have no time for another hobby. I like the truck, but not so much that I am willing to make the commitment to maintain it and I cannot live with ANY older vehicle , whether it...

    getting discouraged with the CUCV

Well, I just put $1000 maintenance into the CUCV including a rebuilt IP and it runs great. It starts, stops, everything works.....but now its leaking oil. I'm guessing rear main seal as its leaking out the little hole at the bottom of the bell housing. I really dont want to face pulling the...

    Tire suggestion for m1009

Over the years (dang, decades) I've lifted and lowered various vehicles. In every case, no exeptions, the vehicle handled, stopped, steered, rode , and reliability WORSE than before the transformation. I finally learned my lesson : the CUCV stays stock no matter how cool it would look otherwise...

has anybody made a capstan winch for CUCV ?

How did you do it ? Construct a special wheel? Wheel adapter? Use a dual wheel someway? Something like this :

    crud in the fuel tank

So I started out with the newly aquired truck with a new fuel filter. 500 miles later the truck quit running. The filter was full of crud. Replaced it. Next day it quit running again. Filter plugged up again. Dropped the tank, rinsed out, blew out the lines, new filter, rebuilt injector pump...

pretty decent fuel mileage I'm thinkin'

I'm running stock 31" tires on stock steel 15" rims, max speed 55 mph, most driving is between 40 and 50 mph. I fill just to the bottom of the fill tube so I can do it the same way each time. Tire pressure is 45 psi. I hear you guys talking 70 mph....I dunno...mine seems wound up tight at 60...

pretty decent fuel mileage I'm thinkin'

I've been driving the 1009 like there is a raw egg under the accelerator pedal....this mornings fillup computes right at 20 mpg. I'm pretty happy with that.

    closeups of CUCV window guards

I have no info about the cost or availability of the window guards : they were on the surplus Border Patrol vehicle when I aquired it. I estimate it would be a thousand dollar bill for materials + fabrication + install.
