PMCS'd the truck and took it on a 30 mile drive so my better half could cut the grass under it. I did have to swap out a battery that went bad suddenly. Still have 2 exide 6TAGM's but what was shocking about the bad battery is it was manufactured in Jan 2017. It still holds 11.6 volts after a...
Kaye's Keep is booked, 5 ton is running good. Still need to put some new tires on the NOS USMC M1028 but it is running like a new truck so Riddle1 should be driving it. If not, medium towbar is ready to drag it kicking and screaming up there behind the 5 ton. It comes in handy as a mild trail...
zeb781, you are in good hands now! I'm just an amateur but AMGeneral knows the Macks as well as most anything else Diesel powered! I'm going to stand back and learn.
One procedure we use on HMMWV's that have sat in storage for some time that don't start is to "give it an enema". Simply put, we remove the return fitting from the injection pump and push pressurized 10 weight oil back into the pump to unseat the check valve. We use a converted grease gun /...
Text message sent, all I can do is sit back and eat popcorn at this point. He's a good guy though, search AMGeneral and you'll see what I already know, he loves the Macks! I've met him personally a few times at a local get together and he's always had solid advice.
I'm not sure how often AMGeneral stops by on here but he knows the Mack ENDT-673 engines very well. I will send him a text to let him know his expertise is welcome on this thread! I'm pretty sure my buddy Elijah95 hit the nail on the head, if the truck runs well once started it might have...
Lots of blow-by when running makes me think a piston has a hole in it. Did the truck have a large amount of blow-by from the draft tube before? There were a few bulletins advising to crank the multifuel over with the shut off rod pulled to the off position due to the older head gaskets leaking...
Working Man's Truck
Up for consideration is an old school M923 that still hauls the mail! It has performed many helpful recoveries from the Iron Planet yard in Albany, GA and has attended 3 Georgia Rallies and participated in 3 Leesburg, GA Christmas Parades. 1 with the Proud American Gun...
I agree with above prognosis and diagnostic procedure. My Deuce had good brakes but an extremely hard to push brake pedal. My results to the above test felt exactly the same with or without air. Changed my air pack and I could lock the rears without lifting off of the seat and regular braking...
I'd check as suggested earlier and ensure the transfer case is in low range. The lever between the drivers seat and passenger bench seat needs to be on the floor. 1st detent from there is neutral, all the way up is high range. My deuce would go slower than my walking speed in low range, 1st...
Ken,
You surprised me! I'm glad you have your build sheet as well. Please do as I did and post the RPO Codes and what is typed next to them. Most I could figure out but some cut off short in the description...
Data is always good so here is some from my M1028. I've posted pictures of the build sheet but never close enough to provide any detail. Below are the option codes that apply to my truck.
A52: SEAT ASM-BENCH
CMD: CHEVROLET FLINT ASM
C6T: GVW RATING 9400 LB
D1U: GEAR-SPEEDOMETER DRIV
E25...
Solid tip Wes. When my injection pump was rebuilt, the shop provided a plug and advised that the injection pump is plenty capable of self priming as long as the fuel filter was full. They were right, it fired up within 30 seconds of cranking after installation.
Mr. James has helped quite a few of us over the years. He's one of those "salt of the earth" members that I'm Proud to call a friend. He even allowed my convoy of Welder1 and PCTrans by on the way home from the GA Rally last year. I think he probably wanted to roll a little slower because I...
The only application that I used non-detergent oil in was the transmission on my M35A2. It has been posted that running 40W nd oil will help lower transmission temperatures by M35Tom. Since he seems to have quite a bit of experience rebuilding and modifying the transmissions in these trucks I...
I voted for Tinwoodsman but it was a difficult choice for me. I love BigMike's Wrecker being a fellow recovery vehicle operator myself but I also love the little Jeeps. I can't afford either but if I had a pile of disposable income, I'd have a Jeep.
Like Simp posted, emergency side on an M809 series truck will have air pressure to the emergency side gladhand anytime the truck has air pressure and the valve just before the gladhand is in the open position. Air pressure sent to the service side is controlled by the air pack which receives...
Plus 1, this was my problem with the exact same symptoms. It feeds air to the "secondary" system once above 60 psi. Your air governor is on the secondary side so when this valve stops working the governor doesn't see system pressure and the compressor runs constantly. Luckily there is an...
ISO Bed? As far as I know only the USMC trucks had those. We only have about 5 or so left locally that have not gone to auction. I'll watch and if one goes I'll drag it home! None of them are runners so they will likely go low.
Blew a birds nest out of the stack and took the truck for an hour drive in the countryside. Truck only sat a week, birds are working quickly around here.
