I agree tobyS. I called myself doing some preventative maintenance to my truck by oiling the head of the compressor with PB Blaster through the unloader line. A few drives later and I had the dreaded no air pressure issue. Turns out whatever gunk was available was loosened by the solvent...
big block,
Yours is sitting on the passenger seat of my Trans Am, it'll be in the mail during my lunch break tomorrow. It looks just like the one in the picture that was posted. It may not make it in time for Christmas but it'll get there. I stated earlier that it was hit or miss which...
I start an engine nearly twice the size with two batteries. Anything under 50 degrees requires about 30 seconds of cranking for the NHC-250. I've read the 8.3's in the A2's are much easier starting so I'm sure you'll be fine with two batteries so long as they are 750 CCA or above.
The finished product looks very similar! Not sure of the powertrain on the prototypes, they settled on a CAT C12, Allison transmission and a single speed transfer case. It's a beast of a truck.
Blake,
Just the same air toggle switch every other M939 series truck has to engage the front drive on the transfer case. I'll do a double check on a tag picture tomorrow. I image searched google and realized I told a fib in the earlier post. The M915 series trucks have a yellow sticker...
Blake,
If you had asked about 3 years ago, I could have taken a picture of one. We have divested all 5 tons so equipped. It's the same placard that I've seen in M915's with Detroit Lockers.
Joseph
Keep in mind that the max speed you're allowed to operate a tactical vehicle on every post I've been to is 40 m.p.h. The TM may be written to reflect this line of thinking. Every National Guardsman I know runs them at the posted limit or 62 mph (governor setting on LMTV), whichever is lower...
Recovery,
There was no rhyme or reason to which USMC trucks had Detroit No Spins. I've seen every variant of M809 and M939 series trucks with and without. I will say the highest concentration groups appeared to be in M817's and M923's. The trucks equipped with Detroits have a dataplate...
Are you staying at Swamps or my place before you pick up the next loader? We might need to start a new thread "Where is Simp Headed?" so we can keep track of you or prepare to be ready for you. I think I speak for everyone when I say We Appreciate all the hard driven miles for members on here.
Took my truck for a few runs today. Guess it is much different having a true diesel as opposed to a multifuel powered truck and I've been doing it wrong. Towards the end of each run, it would pick up speed to the point it'd run on the governor in 5th. After the third run, it idled without...
I was about 3 inches too far towards the passenger side, just needed to make a minor correction. Only had to pull forward about 3 feet to get it straight.
The sprag is pretty tough. If it wasn't broken before, I doubt you've damaged it. The way to engage it without air is to remove the actuator housing on the front of the transfer case and pull/push the piston into position. I can't remember which way for which direction of travel. With a...
Air piston in the front of it engages the transfer sprag. Once he has air pressure, it should assist by engaging the front axle. It's not a direct engagement like the air shift in the M35's "equipped" or M939 series trucks. In the OP's case, he has to have air pressure controlled by the valve...
He sounded nervous on the phone as he was out in the middle of nowhere One thing about those people, they operate big tractors and break stuff on occasion as well. Most are pretty friendly and helpful just as my father in law was. I'm glad that Wes picked up the tracked loader he was after...
Didn't work on a 5 ton today but had to activate my father in law to go get Simp some help. He broke down in Cuthbert, Ga. He described the area as "Banjo Country"! As luck would have it, my wife is from there so Mr. Russel went on the way ready to help. The issue was the threads on the...
1. yes 2. no. I would find a cap that is close but slightly oversized and use a lot of teflon tape to cap the line going to the missing airpack. Might not work but I know I'd try it anyway.
This truck has won before, people have stepped their game up since. It's been over 12 months so it's eligible but let's make a challenge. Introducing my M1028 with less than 8,000 miles. I've got tons of pictures and advertising experience on here, we'll make it a race!
Nah, no popcorn needed. I respect members Tinstar, Cucvrus and 98G. I was only asking a question for an opinion. I know they want them to be all original and that's a good plan. I've modified mine ever so slightly to make it suit my needs. Next modification will be new tires. Mine is still...
