Thanks. I'm looking forward to some of the toys via this modernization.
This particular ISL does not have an engine brake. It came from an expensive RV, and I don't think that group enjoys excessive noise. It did have an exhaust brake on it though. Factory mounted and controlled. The ISL...
Thanks, but, I really just guess my way through it and put on a good show. I wish I knew less about engines, and more about other things in life that matter more, but oh well, this is what we've got, so it is what it is.
OK, so the pneumatic cylinder is spring loaded one way. When air is applied, it pushes up the collar which all the vanes are located. This is really called a nozzle. These vanes are cut with 2 different patterns in them. Depending on how the pattern aligns with the turbine wheel fins...
Yep, thanks. Got the turbo apart. No locating pin for the turbine housing. So, easy to re-clock it for the position I want. Just line up the vanes and we're golden. Here is a couple of shots of the VGT. Next post will be how it actuates. I did not know until I played with it. Simpler than...
Yep yep, thanks. High or low rear just makes it harder to bend exhaust 90, though there are ways to do it. Low rear as it is now may hit the heater core box. Going for high-center mount, which is where the stock 8.3L is. Still learning, looks like some manifolds have round ports (like mine)...
More Raging Slab, just kidding. I'm moving the turbo to the same location where it is up high on the 8.3L. So, off with this exhaust manifold, and I 'll need to clock both housings on the turbo. The turbine housing has a locating pin to the center section, but that can easily be re-drilled...
Thanks for the compliments guys. Very happy to bring modern reliable technology to our trucks, and for a very reasonable price. Anybody who has ditched the stock alt can now shut their truck off in any switch order with no over-volt. The alternators are also temperature compensated, so you...
Interesting, thanks. Is there a specific design on this rim which permits this, which is not found on the others? Is this independent of bead-locks? Apology for all the base level questions.
M939a2 front wheel stud length for HEMTT rims and combat rim CTIS wheel valve transplant onto HEMTT...
I have a PacBrake butterfly exhaust throttling brake that came factory stock on an RV Cummins ISL-400hp engine that I am probably not going to use. It clamps directly to the turbo with a band clamp. Air actuated cylinder. PM me if interested.
Has anybody here confirmed HEMTT rims are plug-and-play for use on front of M939a2 (primary interest in going to 16's)? Concerns seems to be stock wheel stud length for additional 0.350" of thickness in lug nut area of rim, in addition to CTIS wheel valve carry-over from stock combat rim to...
No, I do not have a 50 cal for it, yet. Trying to price out a single shot home built kit. Don't even know where to start on that. Not a big gun buff. Not against them, just not obsessed with them either. My dad was more into them than myself. He just made me reload 1000's of 12ga shells...
There should be a pressure switch on the low side of the system. This switch has 2-3 functions:
1. Prevents compressor from engaging if low side pressure is too low. This assumes the evaporator is ice blocked, or system too low on charge for safe operation.
2. Cycles compressor on/off if...
Got this bracket mounting question answered. It is as I expected. Larger outer holes, smaller inner holes, and nut strips. I'll have to make the nut strips unless anybody has 2 extra for sale. Thanks again for the responses here. Only need to figure out how to get the nut strip in there.
Thanks. PM sent. Still needing front angle bracket drill and install explained. Also seeking one rear U bolt if anybody has one, sling, UPA, etc....., still have a lot to learn.
Helpful, thanks. So focusing on the holes that go directly into the side of the cab, what size are they (drill bit), and then if you look into one with a light, is there a smaller diameter hole further inside in a second piece of metal at a deeper layer?
Sorry to drive everybody nuts with...
