So, what did you bring down? Cletus and the F-Series? I would have drove that 8-ball, no prob. It's not an airplane engine, it is only 47 years old, what's the worst that could happen? You make some new friends.
Good to see you there. Sorry it rained and everybody took their toys and went...
News to me. I have not seen electric exclusive fans in use yet on such applications, but you see a lot more of it that I do. I'm not going to electric unless space constraints drive it, but 4xdesign was able to move his radiator back 2.5" for the charge air cooler and keep his belt fan, so I...
Yep. This was not my starter, a portion of our facility acts as a warranty return center for our product(s). I needed a few different orientated nose cones, so I tripped upon this one during disassembly, and thought to post a lesson learned.
When the procedure was authored, were the rings chrome plated? Are non-plated cast iron rings available for the engine today? I would study more deeply on break in procedure for chrome plated rings on various engines before doing anything.
Really, what I would do, if you are determined to...
82 pages and still blowing smoke from the straw. I told you that you can use the dyno any weekday or weekend night. It is 2wd rollers, so you need to disable one drive axle and remove the outer wheels of the one on the rollers. Can load up to 500hp intermittent, 350hp continuous, for as long...
Thought I would post a photo of what happens if you hold your starter on longer than the specified 30 seconds. Brushes and armature/commutator run the hottest. Starter is a very powerful motor (6kW or so), with zero cooling. In the picture below this armature got so hot the varnish melted off...
Thought I would post a pic of the planetary drive workings of a modern lightweight high efficiency heavy duty starter. The armature shaft is splined and sits in the middle. These starters weigh 28lbs, are dynamically computer balanced, and are O ring sealed. Developed to last a minimum of...
I have $1000 into all brand new clutch parts, rated for it. We're going 13 speed for the win at this point. The 6 speed Allison RV trans has big jumps in gears down low, and the 2 top gears are overdrive, good for road use only. I'm eBaying it. PM if anybody wants it. Cheap.
The CFM of a mechanical fan is like 14x that of an electric on. That is why big rigs have not switched to them, yet. You can hear and feel the difference comparing them.
You're running a 100 amp Delco brushless unit. The brushless units can be weaker at idle than a brush unit, but they are made to last 1 million miles. Don't be surprised if it dips out of the green at idle with all of that on, depends greatly on your idle speed.
Measured up from the underside. The Roadranger trans is 38.5" from mounting flange to output flange U-joint centerline. While under the truck, the Allison appears to measure about 38". Could I be lucky enough to not even need to mod the slip splined prop shaft going to the T-case?
