I can't help but wonder if the truck managed to short circuit the starter wiring... Are you sure something didn't get up against the exhaust and melted off the insulation on the wires connected to the starter?

Definitely need to spray down the contacts with contact cleaner. Then manually exercise the contacts, then spray them again, and maybe even one more time for the sake of doing it...

Yessir. They are "big truck" brakes.
There are two diaphragms in there.
If you have a "key slot" on the back of the canister, you need to "cage" the spring.
I don't know if I can find a picture or not. I will look though.

And did you notice that the steam locomotive doesn't have a "high headlamp" ?
It had lights down at the roadway - but nothing up high to wake up the automobile drivers...

Yes. You can replace the rubber diaphragm inside the canister. You need to be CAREFUL though. The things are called "spring brakes" for a reason. Open it, and PRESTO - you die. There is a bolt in the hole on the side or the canister that compresses the spring deeming it safe to open...

So... On a Deuce... Guessing that you should be able to remove the seal without wrecking it? Hopefully you can see the part number on the seal - then start searching the web for a replacement?
