Anyone in Albany GA and has the space to let us tear down some trailers?

In response to the OP. We've talked thru PM about something else involving roof hatches and I'm fine with that. If you're goal is to get some axles and misc parts from MK 48 series trailers, contact me as I know a guy that has bought a pile of them just south of me about 18 miles away. I've...

Steering Issues, Possibly 6x6 Drive Issue? HELP!

One thing to consider trying. Remove the outer wheel hub caps on the front axle. They're in the center of the wheel and are held on by eight bolts. Take those off, put some plastic over the splined shafts and try driving it then. If it acts the same, that rules out axle issues and then...

pulling 12v without a batt imbalance

I'm so glad I read your post twice before breaking out my Fluke, Flashlight and Camera to prove you wrong and make a fool of myself in the process!!! I know I've used the driver's side alternator case as a ground in the past when testing the glowplugs. Great information and you're absolutely...

pulling 12v without a batt imbalance

Driver's side alt is not "ungrounded". Take a test meter and put the negative lead on it and the positive lead on the back battery positive post. You'll wind up with much more than 12V. The passenger side on is the insulated one if I don't have it backwards.

pulling 12v without a batt imbalance

The Cucv escapes normal thinking in the realm of adding 12V DC electronics to a 24V system and keeping batteries topped off and balanced. Most of us think of a Deuce or 5 ton where the Alt or Gen send 24V power to one battery wired in series to the "trailing" battery. I agree with what was...

    LVS MK-48 Ring mount?

I'm 5'9" and standing in the seat.

    LVS MK-48 Ring mount?

Augdog, Pics attached. To operate it, you push up, rather hard I might add, and slide it over the driver's side. It bolts in pretty easy and the roof panel itself rides on a pair of rails. I had mentioned that it might be an armored cab truck. I found only one with a mount and it was an...

    Tow bar workings

A jackstand can be used to help connect a towbar if you're by yourself. I've not had that luxury. What I do when I'm by myself is position my truck close, hook the tow bar to the disabled truck, remove the pins from the legs, connect the lunette ring to the pintle on my truck, back up till I...

    Tow bar workings

Phil, you'll have to show them how to plumb into the air pack to make them understand how to "tie into" the brakes on the Deuce being towed. I'm fortunate you showed me first hand. It's simple enough, Phil has a custom "J" pipe that he has equipped with an air chuck, an air line that fits it...

    M931 driveablity

The reason you can't shift a 939 into reverse in low range is simple. The torque converter multiplies the torque sent through the driveline. Something is going to give and in the M939 series, it's the transfer case. In the M809 series, same basic driveline layout, they have a clutch which...

    Tow bar workings

That was a case of operating "outside normal parameters" and it happens. Most all of us think about Safety as a primary concern as we don't won't to be involved in a huge mishap. In the military, we have done the same thing. We can't leave a truck behind, it has to make it back to the...

    Return Line Fittings

These have "Old School" fittings, you can get the outer beads and inner ferrules from McMaster Carr. I don't have the part number's in front of me but I have a bag of them in the shed and that's where they came from. I got in a bind on the way to the GA Rally this year and it was the line from...

    LVS MK-48 Ring mount?

I'll try to remember to take my camera to work on Monday. We have some 48's with ring mounts but they are armored cabs. There may be some differences but they could provide some clues.

    Testing Water on Selling

It had a ring mount at some point during it's life and they couldn't get that leg out, I haven't been able to either. It's also got the cab re-enforcement plate riveted in at the back of the cab as well.

    Testing Water on Selling

I'm testing the waters, no truck is for sale at the moment. I have a 1971 M35A2 in pretty good shape. It has a Hercules Multifuel that was one of the last few motors the government could buy, it's a 1991 build, not rebuilt but new in 1991. It has spin on oil filters and a spin on primary fuel...

    M 1028 gear ratio

He searched long enough for me to ask this question. Why are you in a hurry? It'll go 50 all day long and loves it. Doghead, good work as usual.

    Seafoam question

I run Seafoam in my CUCV on a regular basis. It's the only thing that seems to keep the injectors happy and free from sticking. I've apparently found the dis advantage to owning a truck that sat in de-humidified storage for most of it's life. I'll get the injectors rebuilt soon though.

Where are you G744/M39 Series Owners???

vtdeucedriver. PB has spoken for ownership of "Proud American" but the hood numbers come from the original which was a M54A1 W/W. The original was destroyed in combat. Yes I do wish I owned the replica but it receives great treatment and storage in Columbus. I have caused some damage to that...

Can a deuce be driven as a front wheel drive?

My daily is a 93' Eclipse, I perhaps have a different reference point as it only weighs about 2,300 pounds. The "joints" may be different as was pointed out by "G". I don't think a front drive only Deuce would be too much of a handful though.
