    alternator pulley in wrong place

I hate that the one I sent you was not correct. I pulled it from a M923A1 just as your truck is, still had the belts on it when I got to it. Perhaps they have different alternators, the pulley came off a 60 amp for what it's worth and every M939 I've come across has that same alternator.

    Frustrated with idle

Phil, If it's truly a gallon of coolant bubbling out, I'd be concerned and ready to change the gaskets. Try this trick, take about a cup of water and pour it out on your driveway. You'd be amazed how big a spot just that small amount will make. I personally am more prone to fix a coolant...

    Engine Paint color?

This is a picture of my truck when it had 2,189 original miles. I'm going with black as the others have said. I also know that when you get a new GEP 6.5 in a can, it's going to be all black with the exception of the aluminum intake and all the red and blue plastic caps in the openings. I've...

    Frustrated with idle

The oil is coming from above the exhaust manifold. Possibly valve cover gasket. Even if it truly is the head gasket, I've read many times on here as well as in some older PS Magazines that the Army puts out that it's considered normal and fine on a multi to leak a small amount of oil between...

    North GA to Florida---

Dawson, GA is considered SW GA and is about 30 minutes from me, I could easily help you with that. It think your referring to Dalton, GA which is up North near Tennesee.

    Frustrated with idle

My truck did the very same thing after a turbo install during which I broke the plastic lines going to the flame heater on the intake. It became hard to start when cold (30 seconds of cranking opposed to the normal 1/2 second) and would hunt for idle. It'd run fine once I put my foot on the...

    Rear axle continues to leak

Careful which seals you get 052. I scored me a outer seal on E-Bay once upon a time and it only lasted about 500 miles. When I pulled the hub back apart, I pulled the seal and noticed the out bearing race had worn a very noticeable grove in it. I then did some reading on here and came across...

M1008 with 700r4 swap.. MPG and top speed?

fantastic answer Iceman. I had this about figured out, that clears it up. FYI as well, for a lockup kit on a 700R4, if you put a regular valve body check ball on top of the solenoid before you install it, the torque converter will lock up automatically in 3rd and 4th. I had an 86 Z28 one time...

M1008 with 700r4 swap.. MPG and top speed?

I really like the idea of a 4 speed trans in one of these. I'd like if someone could send me a quick list of what I'd need to do to make this swap a reality as I enjoy driving my truck except for the whole 55 mph sounding like it's going to explode part. The wife says it sounds normal to her...

If one battery is weak, can I jump just that one?

Make sure you don't let the jumper cables touch anything but the appropriate terminals on the battery itself or you may damage the slaving vehicles electrical system.

Anybody have any specs to make spin filter adapters?

As do the adapters, I posted incorrectly earlier that it was an o-ring. It's not, just a gasket.

    5 Ton Recover---gone bad

If it was noticed that the front shaft was bent, why not remove it? Even had a M1031 Contact Truck that likely had quite a few tools in it somewhere. I hate to see when a plan does not come together.

M900 series exhaust on M809 truck.

Jeff, you're trying to re-invent the wheel. On an M809 base or A1, the muffler is under the hood right there on the exhaust manifold. If not,add or put a muffler in the stack behind the mirror. Losing a fuel tank of 40 gallons on an M818 limits your range greatly, ear muff's are cheap as are...

Anybody have any specs to make spin filter adapters?

If $150 is a fair price, I didn't get gouged too badly at all. I paid about $160 for the machined bases, pipe plug adapters, o-rings, and a set of filters and I paid shipping. I know the price has gone up since then but I've never complained on the deal I made with 1 of the 2 that currently...

    AH Dam Those Bolts......

In this case, flexplate to crankshaft bolts may be the culprit since you indicate you can move the flexplate slightly. The starter bolts to the engine block, if the flexplate is loose, it can cause the starter and transmission case to get "clearanced". Otherwise, I'd agree with camogriz and...

    M1028 498 mile road trip

60 mph for 500 miles? That's awesome. I haven't done the calculations but I generally run mine at about 50 mph and it sounds pretty high strung with an occasional run to 55 mph or so. How fast can they run on the governor (3,600 rpm's or so?) assuming stock tires and 4.56 gears? Glad your...

Anybody have any specs to make spin filter adapters?

If there was a published design that included part numbers for the O-rings and the pipe thread adapters, I'd likely have had a local machine shop fab these up and saved some money for sure. I believe the R&D costs have likely been recouped but fabbing up something like these adapters is outside...

New EPA Regulations On Large Truck Emissions

The EPA is part of the reason we have these trucks now. Do some research, they hated the multi, only allowed 5,000 to be purchased in the late 80's, early 90's, and basically forced the military to pull the plug on it. Now we have these wonderful clean, computer controlled Diesels that meet...

Anybody have any specs to make spin filter adapters?

I purchased a kit from one of the two who supply them, I've noticed both have gone up since I bought in. Overpriced, from a cost of material's standpoint, I can see that. Keep in mind, I don't have access to a lathe, mill, and round stock that big around, etc. I did take metals shop in high...

Recovery of 817 dumper from Sparta Wisc.

I've never seen fuel in the coolant on a 250 Cummins, I'm not quite sure how it wind up in there in the first place. I know if you don't allow about an inch or so below the bottom of the surge tank filler neck (past where the cap seats), it will spew coolant when you get it warm. If you see a...
