Well, the truck is safely in Russ's hands now. We ran into a few minor hiccups on the recovery but all together it went smooth. The brakes didn't want to release until Russ backed the adjustments back down all the way. Then the Deuce did fine with it. Enjoy the pics! The truck has some...
they're tight, no tight turns to mention of. The truck I pulled these off of had identical marks and it was still an "on duty" truck, just in inactive heading to DRMO status.
Travis,
I remember that truck. That's the first one you got out of Albany and you towed an M818 out behind it with a towbar. I had fun that day with you, your brother and your dad. Even had to find some Hawkers to try and crank that thing over and then bring a HMMWV with so slave cables. I...
I would like to add, running the rears dualed, they will rub the trunion cap bolts slightly going down the road. I didn't realize tires expand quite that much at speed. Parked, you've got a good 3/4" clearance but the rub marks tell the story.
T831's ride nicely and really look great on the truck. I got a set recently and the difference in ride is amazing. I got them for the right price of free which I couldn't argue with. Only problem is I had to swap them over by myself from another truck but for $3000 worth of new rubber, that...
I've looked into adding a pinion brake on my rear most axle as a replacement to the parking brake. It would be a separate small master actuating the pinion brake for the use of parking and as an emergency brake in the event the regular braking system decided to give up the ghost. My brakes...
Russ,
Do you have some 15/16" pins that we can use? Also, people who may know more about this, can I use the feet from my medium towbar that is set up for pulling M35A2's, M809 series trucks?
Thanks,
Joseph
I'd just like to add that I was being completely sarcastic when I typed "G may not know what he's talking about". I've read many hot hub / import seal threads and I believe the man has gone well out of his way to research the issue. I know exactly why he bought all of my excess so quickly and...
I'm not an expert on the subject but I will toss this out. I picked up quite a few inner's and outer's that my local NG unit was going to toss due to the fact that Deuce parts are no longer authorized in any military unit. The Deuce's we have are all headed to DRMO / GL. I scooped those parts...
Russ,
I'm looking forward to helping you pick that truck up next weekend. Hopefully you can get your first drive in it but I'll bring the M35A2 along with medium towbar and pins just in case. Should be a great day whichever way we have to recover it. I'm curious to how my truck will tow now...
G,
I'm glad your parts arrived safely. I do have more seals but they are reserved for my truck. I've personally experienced the hot hub issue from a Chinese Seal and now I'm experiencing the normal temp hub but slightly leaking again issue on that same wheel. That seal probably has less...
For what it's worth, the Marines are receiving the new Terex MAC 50 Crane which uses full hydro steering and it's street legal. It does have a secondary steering circuit and that pump is powered by the transfer and only works above 3 mph.
Man, you're as lost as the guy I sold one to. He's trying to sell it now since upkeep and maintenance is relatively expensive. They bob cheaply enough and buying at auction is a crapshoot. You can get it home but plan on a full out recovery including having it picked up and loaded onto a...
rlwm211 spent quite some time typing and articulating his response and did an excellent job in the process. If I weren't working 7 12's right now(12 hours a day, 7 days a week), I'd explain a little better. There's alot of people on this site that want you to search some to find the answers...
I'll do it before doghead does. Search!
An air-shift front axle is just like a sprag front axle. The answer is in the transfer case. Try using the search button and type in "air shift transfer" and you should come up with a wealth of knowledge.
Welcome to Steel Soldiers!!!
According to Hawker's literature, the batteries should be showing 13.0 Volts at full charge. I just went through some of this on my truck. It would pause for almost a second before the starter solenoid would engage. I purchased a battery charger specifically for AGM batteries as I've read the...
I've played the game and learned from the established crowd here on SS and so far, my truck has been free. What I mean by that is I purchased my Deuce in October of last year from GL, waited on the EUC and picked it up the day before Christmas Eve. Luckily, it only took a set of batteries and...
