Jake brakes open the exhaust valves just before top dead center allowing all that compressed air to exit out the exhaust. It also stops the fuel. So each time the piston is coming up to top dead center the engine is compressing all that air which requires HP and then just letting it go. It can...
First off, sorry I couldn't post anything yesterday. The site was down every time I tried. I did test drive a few trucks. They didn't have any 1 ton duallies which I want, but I did drive the 3/4ton "High Country" . It had the new V8 Duramax with all the new power upgrades. All I can say is that...
OK, this is a "just for fun" post. Today I went to the Chevy dealership in Kirkland WA. to check out the new 2017 Chevy trucks. I need to buy a new truck for hauling our trailer. Anyway I brought my 1984 M1028 CUCV . My wife was with me. As we pulled into the lot she turned to me and said "no...
Oh the joy of first "Love" . I remember it well. Just like in marriage though there will be times when you think you cannot take it anymore and will want to sell her (divorce) . Those feelings will pass, and then the love returns ! That's when you buy her fancy accessories like "power steering"...
The wiring is just for the heater element. The valve opens when enough water collects to "trip" the spring and then the valve opens. Very effective little valves. All modern air system vehicles have them installed nowadays.
I've seen that picture before. It was from the Hercules factory and those engines where cores sent back waiting to be rebuilt.
I wished I had saved that story now.
OK, come on now. I said to stop the stupid theory thing. For one they pretty much stopped using this rod after they dropped (stopped using) the NP205 transfer-case. So the NP208 never really had the support rod. I know a few did, but they are extremely rare. For another thing the case doesn't...
When you went to the DOT 4 brake fluid, did you totally purge out all the DOT 5 fluid with brake clean and air ? If you didn't you could have some contamination and the brake booster could be acting up because of it. Did you totally teardown the brake booster ? Or did you just take off the back...
To help save your spring you could install it on the other side of the flapper valve. That way when it's closed the heat will not be hitting it straight on.
We where not talking "mission critical" here but is that rod helpful. The answer is "yes" that rod and the two on the lower housing are extremely helpful.
And again no one will answer the question I posted. If this rod is so "useless" then why did GM even have it ? Come on guys, if you cannot...
I don't think we are talking about the same rod. Yes it is in the same place but the factory rod I remember is a solid forged round bar that works pulling and pushing. It is not some "tweaky" little rod. It is also not mounted horizontally, but at an angle. Mounted high on the transmission and...
This is one of the most important tips I've read so far ! As a bus mechanic that is the very first priority when going out to fix and retrieve a bus. How do we get it out of here ?!?! This same rule applies to any large vehicle. Always be conscious of your surroundings.
Again you fail to look at this as a functioning unit. The "front" of the transfer-case is bolted down to the rear cross-member. Yes there is some give in the rubber mount but not much, so if that whole engine/transmission/transfer-case unit is moving then yes that "rod" adds a tremendous amount...
