Military identification painted on vehicle. Illegal or okay?

Hundreds of military vehicles in collectors' possession have been restored with full unit markings. No laws against doing so.

2000 mile road trip in an FMTV

All your temps look fine. Ah, the voluntary wardrobe malfunction. Something about Army trucks. I've enjoyed that twice over the years.

Mid-roadtrip NEED LMTV tires, I-90 anywhere between SD, WY, MY, ID or WA

You did alright. The 1079's can bring that money not running straight from GP. You have a known good truck.

Mid-roadtrip NEED LMTV tires, I-90 anywhere between SD, WY, MY, ID or WA

The Army runs these foot on the floor wide open all day long. Of course there is usually a wrecker in the convoy though.

What should I pay for it?

Ideally $500, but may have to go to $1500 due to the winch inherent value.

Mid-roadtrip NEED LMTV tires, I-90 anywhere between SD, WY, MY, ID or WA

25% should make it home, 395s aren't that bad. 20" tires have become a military only thing as of late. Hopeless to find a 20" super single at roadside tire shops. I don't think speed has much to do with wear.

If the issue is your front axle, check toe in with a crude method and set to zero if needed.

    M1078 No Start...Not even trying.

Neutral state is software driven, the VIM relay is how the software communicates the start engine permissive.

    4 cyl M-series waterproof distributor caps (M38, M38A1, M151, L-head, F-head, etc.)

Yes the caps suck as well. The high voltage jumps through porosity or cracks in the cap rather than firing the plug. I rely on my dwindling supply of NOS parts. Very frustrating.

My old M275 needs turn signals.

Simplest was to do this is to obtain a turn signal lever, flasher module, and the short harness that connects the two and install in your truck. Next, run new wires from the flasher module to the four lamp units at the corners of the tractor. Then, using the wire marker id chart, make your...

What exactly was done with this MSE modification? M101A2

Pretty sure it means Mobile Subscriber Equipment. Army had some crude cellular com setups around that time with shelters in HMMWVs that needed to haul auxiliary equipment.

2000 mile road trip in an FMTV

I think trying to get the 395s balanced is a hopeless endeavor especially over the thanksgiving weekend. Army never did, Stewart & Stevenson never did either.

    Looking at a 1952 M38A1

Looks good, worth $8-10K. It's been somewhat restored it would appear.

YES!!!! Inter (between) Axle Differential. All modern 18 wheelers have it and a pneumatic lockout on the dash to control it. MTV has it but engagement is automatic.

2000 mile road trip in an FMTV

You are correct. Mode actuates a solenoid which engages the interaxle differential lock. OK, not clear on a few things, do you have up and down motion on your pinion exiting the rear of the center differential? Were your U joints out of phase on the rear rear driveshaft?
