Here is a prime example why I continue to use the dot 5 Silicone brake fluid. I tore down my front brakes today to rebuild the calipers and here they are just after I blew out the pistons. I didn't touch them and you can see how clean they are ! There is a little rust on one right at the bottom...
That second wire could be your ignition wire. It has power after you turn on the master switch. Make sure you have a proper ground wire and that the wires you are installing are what you think they are ! If you installed that one wire to ground and it actually is the ignition wire you would fry...
What you need to also realize is that regular rubber hoses degrade over time which silicone hose does not. If your not going to keep your truck for the long haul then just use regular hose. I'm never selling my truck, at least if I can help it. I plan on willing it to my son. In fact he was...
This is the major reason I went with the 383 cid Hi-Torque engine. I get better mileage and way more power then the old 6.2 could ever give me. Now towing my trailer is a pleasure not a hassle. I would love to get a Duramax with a Allison some day but since I'm retired now too I cannot afford...
In all honesty the manual transmission days are numbered. The latest craze is the variable ratio transmission for cars and at least a 6 speed for pick-ups. Semi-trucks have gone to the Allisons in mass. The training for drivers is halfed and the maintenance is also less then half that of...
My transmission developed a problem last week. I was driving up a hill when I lost second gear. I had to drive the truck home in first gear. So this weekend I cleaned up my work bench and removed the transmission. I ruined eight U-joint strap bolts. I had previously Loctited them in and the...
Did you actually have leaking from the injector lines ? If so did the new ferrules stop the leaks ? If the leaks have stopped then yes you might have a bad Hydraulic Head. I would first check the fuel filters before doing anything else. Then check the fuel pump, then check the Hydraulic Head.
When is this rally ? Also where ? Is it across from the Grange by chance ? My grandmother lived in Napavine and I spent my summers there picking strawberries at old man Carlsons farm. I still have some family living near there.
Spin-on oil filters need the gasket lubed ( I use Vaseline) and tightened until snug and then 1/4 turn more. When I say snug that just means it won't spin by my finger tips anymore. We get some knuckleheads at work who think tighter is better and actually use the filter wrench to tighten the...
Yes silicone hoses are the best and yes you should use "shielded hose clamps" on them ( I prefer stainless steel myself). The best clamps for the larger hoses are stainless steel "T" bar clamps.
As far as longevity of the silicone hoses goes, in my 24 years at the transit dept I only saw 2 hoses...
I know about the brake hoses and how the inner lining can break down. That's why I went and installed PTFE stainless steel lines years ago when I installed all new stainless steel brake lines. No it's the caliper sticking. It work for awhile after I installed new pads now it's back to it's old...
I would be real careful about injuries ! I was hit on the Freeway years ago. Due to a terrible accident all traffic ahead of me stopped. The problem was the guy behind me. He was arguing with his wife and didn't see that traffic had stopped. He hit me at 60 mph ! Well I thought I was OK at first...
