Sorry I'm late to the discussion, for a simple O.D. you could used a Tcase from a 939 series 5ton. Same basic mounts but the Tcase is O.D. in high range. Less custom to engineer imho.

Run some Cascade dishwashing detergent through the block. Fill it up with tap water and cascade, drive for a bit and drain. You'll be surprised at what comes out.
I have Replaced mine with the LED face. They don't line up right with the metal buckets, but do one the plastic ones. My experience anyway. I also like the fact that they are dual voltage, no need to convert 24/12v - they work on both!
