Why not unplug the hood harness? Maybe the connection is weak and resetting it would cure the issue? I'd try that first, it can't take but a min or two.
The fuge is a larger up-front investment but the longer you use it the cheaper it gets. Just make sure you don't get one with too small of a bowl, or you will be cleaning it all the time!

I'd use an air cyl or vernier cable to operate the pto. If memory serves, stock config is mechanical.
Well, if you never plan on using the "black out" lights, just use the black out light circuit. All you have to do to turn on the aux lights is move the switch on the 3-lever.
Thats How I did my reverse lights on my deuce.
