My wrecker guy charges $200.00 to crank his up...after that there is hook-up, milage and "related expenses".
That sounds fairly reasonable to me. Especially since it will have to be winched on and off. If he has room to manuver he will probably drop it right where you want it.
When I was stationed at Fort McClellan, AL, I met a guy that had bought 30 M151A2's from DRMO (GL had not taken over yet) that had just had the roll cages installed on them. He paid about 15.00 each for them because he had to take the whole lot.
This was when the HUMVEE was just being fielded...
It might also have something to do with the suspension on the military HUMVEEs.
I have seen several HUMVEEs rolled over. It is against Army regulations to operate a HUMVEE (or any tactical vehicle) without wearing a Kevlar helmet.
The old M151's were independent suspension.
If you got stupid...
If you are sure you are turning them in the right direction you can apply heat with a propane torch or oxy/actylene......just don't get them red hot and take the temper out of them. Heating them will expand them (keep the heat on the nut, not the stud) and they will usually come right off.
When...
The offending part has been reinstalled and said trailer now will steer. 8)
This will allow me better access to my other junk.
Many thanks again to all those who assisted. [thumbzup]
That's the great thing about this site. The amount of pratical knowlege here is staggering. And a lot...
ROUND THREE!!!!!AND THE WINNER IS...........WRECKERMAN!!!!!!!!!! :D
The wax did the trick folks. 8)
I heated it and applied the wax last night.....heated it again this morning and applied a judicious amount of force with the medium hammer.
It took about four good blows and the wheel fell...
The now infamous Chemical Shelter Trailer has heaped more grief on me today.
I moved it into the shop with my tractor and put it in the center of the building while I did my trouble shooting on the systems.
I now need to get my son's car out of the shop and therein lies the problem.
I need to...
I don't know if you were kidding about the tires or not. They are on some very strange rims.
Unless there is a BIG lift kit involved I would think not.
I had the extreme misfortune of having to repair one that we flattened while clearing a range.
I won't go into great detail but it involved...
I have actually driven these vehicles before. I was in an ammo unit at Fort Benning and we had several of them.
They are a maintainence nightmare. The chasis is driven hydrolically by a V-8 Cummins diesel. All four wheels are powered and it has front and rear steering and can crab sideways. It...
Recovery......thanks for the excerpt from the manual. I still can't get the ^%*&^ thing to download.
The truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
I cleaned the points as per above instructions and also the plugs.
I gave her a small shot of ether and put the fuel to her.
She fired up but hit wide open throttle and I cut it off.
Now that I know it will run I can address the fuel issue and see if it needs an electrical pump or if it will...
Many thanks for the replies. I tried the ether tonight and it didn't fire. That leaves the electrical issues. This thing has several systems on it and anyone of them could have a override switch that would keep the engine from starting. I made sure the oil level was good before I tried to fire...
Let me add this caveat to your source of oil.
From 1995 until 2002 I worked as a driver for a Haz Waste processing company.
Once that 55 gallon drum has a HAZMAT label with a Generator ID, name and date on it, it becomes Hazardous Waste and can only be moved by a licensed Haz Waste hauler.
If...
These were not Basic Issue Items that came with every truck.
When we needed one we had to check it out of the tool room.
If you lost it you had to sign a Statement of Charges.
They were not cheap and they had a bad habit of wandering off.
Those things are great but you have to be very, very careful when you use them. I lost an amazing amount of hide off of one hand when it got pinched in the gears.
You also have to make sure you have it seated square on the nut you are attempting to remove. If it gets canted it will pop off and...
Thanks 4x4.
I am working on this during my (intermitable) wait for my next assignment.
I'll go out and get the exact model no. off of it and try to download the manual.
I thought about the starting fluid but I was worried that using it on a gas burner might result in damage. :shock...
