    Chains

What tensioners are you guys running? And where did you get them? Not sure what size I need for 395s.

    Chains

I ended up ordering 3 sets, because why not. Truck should be even more unstoppable now. Thanks for your input.

    Chains

I am looking at tire chains for my 5 ton with 395's. I remember reading that only the middle axle should get them? Is that correct? Is there a reason not to do the fronts? I can understand the rears with possible chain interference (not sure how big of an issue this is with 395's).

    Any north idaho members

Got a M923A2 ROPS. You can find my build thread in my profile.

    Any north idaho members

I am up there from time to time, not in my military vehicle though. I am in Boise.

    5TID's M923A2 ROPS build thread

Had fun at the parade this weekend, there were over 100 entries and I was first in line (after the VFW and main parade sponsor of course, both of which are always first).

    5TID's M923A2 ROPS build thread

After driving it a bit with the exhaust wrap, I swear my EGT's (which are probably due to lower intake temps) are cooler with the same driving. So I doubled down a bit and we'll see what they do now.

    Replacing Differential Gear Oil

My transmission looks to have been converted to Dexron III, but I was going to do the transfer case with the 80w90 while I am at it.

    Replacing Differential Gear Oil

I am possibly looking to replace the gear oil in my M923A2 (rebuilt in 2011, about 5500 miles on it now). I am almost positive the oil has not been changed since it was rebuilt. The oil itself looks normal, and even pretty new still, but I figure there is a time aspect as well versus just debris...

    Another CTIS Issue

Not really an expert here, so.... Is the controller actively trying to inflate or deflate the system? If all tires deflate, that means the system is pressurized to open all the wheel valves, right? Does it do it with the controller disconnected?

    5TID's M923A2 ROPS build thread

Added some heat control under the hood. Figure less heat under the hood means less heat into the cab from the firewall.

    5TID's M923A2 ROPS build thread

Finally got my DVR/camera system installed. Had to make my own metal mount for the screen since the plastic on that came with it did not seem sturdy. Only had to drill holes for the rear camera, the front and sides either use existing holes or magnetic mounts. Rear camera. Side cameras. Use...

    5TID's M923A2 ROPS build thread

Added a breather to the crank case vs just having the hose go down the back of the motor. Also ran the axle vent tubes up to the top of the firewall to a manifold, also connected to the breather tank. I have some ideas on how to pressurize the axle breathers for a home made simple fording kit...

    Maintaining pressure while parked

Parking brake switch with roller lever triggered by parking brake lever (blue arrows). Red arrow is where air is escaping (pivot point I think).

    Maintaining pressure while parked

Did some testing, after 1 hour and 15 minutes, pressure dropped from 115psi on the gauges to 70psi. I also let it sit over night and while the gauges read 0/10psi, the drain valves all released pressure when I open them this morning. I have a new front axle switch on the way, but I think the...

    Maintaining pressure while parked

Thanks for the replies. I have done the soapy woder trick while plugged into house air. The only two places I can hear air is from the park brake air switch and the front axle engagement switch. I guess I really do need to time it and verify how long it maintains air.

    Maintaining pressure while parked

How long should my tanks maintain pressure while parked? I know ideally there are no leaks and it is infinite, but in reality what is a usual time to drop from 120psi to 60psi to 0psi? I know of a few minor air leaks on my truck and debating if I should fix them due to the cost and effort...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I suppose you could, but the wire is pretty simple. Just get some 18 or 20ga galvanized wire. Pretty easy to do. My bolts are a flat head screwdriver, not a hex head, so thread lock might be too much to get back out if needed.
