I haven't had any issues with mine. I just keep them greased up. My experience as for as driving characteristics have seemed to be near identical to the OEM ends. However, my truck is just a hobby truck and the heaviest load it gets these days is load of parade goers! 😁
Changing out 12 torque...
The two-piece 5-ton OEM rims are a 20" tube-type rim. Most commercial trucks are running 22.5" and 24.5" tubeless rims. Bolt circles, 11.25", are the same. The disc offset, and backspacing are near identical. I put tubeless-type 22.5" X 8.25" rears and 22.5" X 12.25" (4.75" centerline offset)...
Love the NATO delineators! Being a USAREUR Veteran stationed near Bremerhaven in Garlstedt mid-'88 to the end of '89, I just had to have them.
I was an M1A1 Tank Crewman over there. We had them mounted on aluminum plates with Velcro just below the taillights. The Velcro was so they could be...
I just found your post.
It was quite a project, but I converted to dual circuit air brakes; s-cams in the rear, M939-series wedges in the front. It even morphed into outboard brake drums.
M809-series (M818 ) Air Brake Retrofit
I have the preset Lipe like the last pic. I just had to remove three shipping/installation bolts and it was ready to go.
The TM (9-2320-260-34-1, pg. 4-2) shows your new pressure plate. The release fingers are adjusted via the three nuts in the semi-circular indentations.
Text from the TM...
CARC substitute from RAPCO. They have it in rattle can and by the gallon.

Not much bigger than 11.00-20's, but I converted to 12R22.5 tires, Firestone T831, on 22.5 X 8.25 tubeless rims. The rears are still duals. I recently switched to 385/65R22.5's...
I agree. The military tactical support vehicle clause is no longer in effect as they are now in private hands. Historic Vehicle plating per the code sections I cited is really becoming the only alternative.
My M818 is titled and registered in CA as we speak. There has never been any threat of...
Exactly how my M818 title and registration was completed back in '09. Unfortunately, the lady who owned the service I used retired and closed the business.
By the by...I had the truck VIN verified (REG 31) at the AAA office in Inglewood, CA back then. Easy peasy! I don't know if they are still...
Finally, installed my 12" brass locomotive bell. It joins my Nathan Airchime P3 locomotive horn already installed. My truck has now become quite musical.
The winch-top bracket is 6" W x 1.92" H x .20" Thick u-channel cut to 40" cantilevering over the right-side frame. An EMD spacer...
Welcome back, Rick! My condolences on the loss of your wife 😞🙏
I'm glad your recovery from illness has progressed well! 👍
I look forward to doing business with you again.
Huntington Beach American Legion Post 133 is requesting the use, preferably, of either a 2 1/2 or 5-ton M-series, FMTV or MTVR 7-ton truck for this year's 4th of July Parade in its namesake city. The trucks are used for Veterans who are not able to march the entire parade route and must be...
I have never seen the OEM PTO configured for airshift. The issue with those PTO's is they have five shift positions, R-N-L-N-H. The airshift cylinders I am familiar with will only actuate R-N-F. Maybe someone else has figured it out.
I did not know David personally but have seen his posts here frequently. I just learned reading his obit that he was a US Army National Guard Tanker. And with that, we old crusty Tankers share a bond as tough as the steel we once rode and it's never easy to learn of a Brother's passing.
Now...
I perused the -34P TM. I found that the axle assemblies both front and rear carry different part numbers than the other M809-series models (the exception is a unique front axle assembly part number on M819 tractor/wrecker). What exactly the differences are, I am not certain. Differentials carry...
I decided to swap out the front General Grabbers with Bridgestone L315's; the tires I originally wanted but could not find early on. I could not find L315's in anything less than sets of four. I then found and ordered the L315's from a third party called OTR Tires and they actually shipped them...
