Oh, I'm a huge Bryson fan, have all his books, most enjoyable.
We should suggest that to him as a sequel to "A sunburned country" like "Around Australia with a Deuce"....
No wait a minute, that was Tony Hawks.... what the heck, anyhow...
Cheers,
Mark
If the brake shoes have to travel a long distance to the drum, this is usually accompanied with a distinctive noise that the retaining spring makes (definitly audible as long as the motor is not running...). I found that this corresponds to how far the brake pedal can be pushed until you have a...
Hi guys,
my airpack is blowing brake fluid through the vent line, I guess its due for a rebuild.
We're a bit short of replacement parts here in Germany, so I have to consider buying it in the States. I saw that several dealers, who offer the rebuild kits for the long (old) airpack...
Exactly what I thought, Mike, he also lost me at that point. I have a few books about the air operations in the CBI scenario (Flying the hump et al) and it is truly amazing what these aircraft could achieve. No wonder they are still flying operational these days.
The video is great though...
Nice video here, flying DC3s in Colombia ! Not 30 years ago, but today! The old workhorse still carries on.

PS: in the video, at 1:43, the sentence I put as topic to this thread was uttered by a passenger :-)
I think that's right, and in my opinion there is also the following to consider: theses vents only work one way (_if_ they work). What happens after the vehicle is parked and things cool down? In the axels and trannies there will be a slight under pressure, which draws air through the axle...
Hmmm, a few months ago I had an idea to build a remote reservoir which could be put under pressure itself (bicycle pump, maybe even tapped air from the deuce airsystem and a low pressure relief valve)....hmmmm....
I use the same cheap, standard automotive 12v 70Ah batteries for 4 years now without problems. Because there are times when the deuce sits for longer periods, I also recharge them regularly, expecially over the cold period.
I have the hypothesis that batteries with a high capacity are not...
I had my shoes relined at a shop here in Karlsruhe. I drilled out the old rivets and removed the old linings, cleaned the shoes, and brought the new linings and the rivets together with the shoes to the shop. They have a hydraulic press for the rivets and it was done in 10 minutes. Cost: 10...
Excellent, thanks!
I also have to mod my rear lights, because in Germany red turn signals are not allowed. I removed the innards of the blackout assy, so only the clear lens remained, and put a yellow turn signal bulb in the orginal socket.
Anyway, now I can take the final steps to...
Make sure to remember that the left and right side nuts / lugs have different orientations, if you have to undo them [thumbzup] !
I once forgot that on a budd inner nut (not so easily notable because you don't see a thread) and almost broke my back on that sucker before I remembered that...
Unfortunatly, the wires are clipped and therefore the tags are gone on the lights I restored. The unit in the picture is a new one which I used as a reference for this posting here. I should have given a note about that in my fist posting.
Cheers,
Mark
Hi guys,
I want to retrofit my deuce with old style front turn signals and rear lights.
Internally, these lights are basically the same except that the front turn signals have clear glasses and the rear lights have red ones.
Now, behind the top glass are two bulbs (one behind a lens in the...

Hehe, I hear you, I went through the same...
Thanks for your comments, guys. I have some soldering and welding experience, so I feel confident enough to tackle the job. I wouldn't try to repair a damaged radiator core though, but the joint of the water pipe seems pretty easy.
This is also a good opportunity to change those old...
I have a destroyed filler plug on my front axle that has yet to be conquered. Someone, not me!, tried to chisel it loose, but obviously, it didn't move. Now it looks like a gremlin has gnawed on it.
The only way I can think of to master that extraction is to quickly weld a square end on it...
