PS: Other than the weight I towed, all numbers are conjecture. I know from experience that even with a tranny cooler etc... that there are much better choices for towing rigs out there. The suspension in extremely harsh, the engine with a heavy load is gutless (still love it) and going up a hill...
Hallo...
The reference for you question is the Tech manual associated with the vehicle. TM's are located on Steelsoldiers homepage. The TM has drawing with specs etc... You'll be disappointed to find that the tech manual recommended tow weight is quite low. If I were you, I'd use GM civilian...
Thanks but that's not an option for me. It will have to sit. I've had good luck with my Tacoma. In the past 10 years it's set up several times and it almost always cranks right up. Once I had to buy a battery. If it's messed up when I get home I'll deal with it. The TM thing is a good idea. I...
Leaving for Afghanistan in a few weeks. Any pointers on long term storage for my M1028? Like my daily driver, I'll put it up on jackstands and put fuel stabilizer in the tank. I'll also unhook the batteries and put rat killer on the interior and in the engine bay. Anything else? Any ideas on...
Has anyone found an equivalent sized fuel filler cap that locks? I'm storing my truck for my next rendevous with destiny and noone has a fuel cap that big.
How did your trailer wiring turn out on the 1028? I'm looking to do the same shortly and wondered if the plug-and-play T connector will work. From the thread it sounds like it will but I wanted to know how you resolved yours. Thanks, Sam.
---I’m happy with the result but I spent a lot of...
Thanks. I finally finished it up tonight after working on it 10-20 min at a time for the past 2 weeks. I ran a wire off the forward-most battery to a 30amp circuit breaker to the brake controller. I found a terninal in the fuse box with an "always-hot" 12v lead for the AUX PWR to the trailer plug.
Wiring up my trailer lights- still. Need a constant 12v source to run to the 7 pin connector. Anybody know of one? The directions say run the wire to the battery which won't work because they're X2 12v batteries in series. Where's the step down transformer (or equivalent)? Or is there a constant...

I finally got time to wire up these stupid trailer lights today. On my wiring harness there are 3 spade connectors coming of the trucks harness at each taillight assy. One is the respective turn signal. One is the running light. And the other is probably a ground or the reverse...
Did you mean plug in on the right side (passenger) or I won't have a left blinker? I put in on the driver's side and, as I suspected, only the functions of the left light work. I'll plug it in on the right side tomorrow. Maybe the problem is that I disconnected the NATO trailer connector. I...
There are 2 places where the "T" connector can plug in, one at each end of the back of the truck below the taillight assy. Each has 3 male spade connectors coming from the harness with 4 female spade connections coming from the taillight. Is it sufficient to put the "T" connector in between one...
I bought a trailer wiring adapter for an 86 Chevy truck. Obviously it doesn't fit. The connector is a 4 pin square one when I actually need a 3 pin flat one. I read an article on this web site that says an 83 adapter will fit. Can anyone confirm this is true? The CarQuest I use is locally owned...
Thanks for the input. The point you make just validates everything I've been reading about the 6.2L. I'm a little disappointed since I bought this truck to tow with (and because it's cool). I've always wanted a CUCV so it's not a loss. I'm still going to tow my trailer with it. I'll just have...
