Wow...looks kewl!
Pardon me for asking a noobie question: What is it?
Did it come from the factory with that bed?
With this bed, are rears single on purpose?
What was it's main purpose the military used it for?
Some many questions, so little time.

Here is it for sale:
1976 Jeep J-20 Air Force Ambulance Des Moines, Iowa New Lower Price -...
The USAF also bought these from Jeep.
A have a few of my FSJ buddies with an ambulance based off a mid 70's Jeep J20, AMC 360 V8, T18 4 speed, Dana20 transfercase with a PTO winch.
Same body as the M886.

I dunno...like I mentioned, I assumed both trucks performed the same.
But because I was educated to the facts that the 900 is geared higher...then allow me to suggest an explanation of many way better fuel economy.

My bumper pull...

The problem I ran into, these vehicles are super heavy.
My research indicated they were more than 8000#.
I was told that...
CUCV axles are easy to find what I would recommend.
Just because they came under a CUCV, they are far from mil-spec axles are common as grass.
The 14bolt and Dana 60 front axle are ideal for your application.
Best thing, they have the gear ratio you need for your 6.2.
Yes, you need to move some...
My son, my middle daughter and I drove from Fort Wayne, IN to Dayton (3 hours one way) for this show.
Having never been to an event like this, I did not know what to expect.
I will admit, there were some kewl exhibits.
I was able to show my son an M-818 up close.
We all liked the 1:6 scale...
I think the same way about Full Size Jeeps (FSJ)
In the FSJ community, some folks take super nice, clean, rust free rigs and chop them up for hardcore trail rigs and then go out and bash them on rocks and trees.
It's their trucks and their $$$, so who I am to say anything?
However it makes me...
