This truck has had some gremlins early months, but since has been fine.. then....
It started to not want to charge, that is getting low voltage when running. I figured it was the batteries. So I was gonna take it to the shop and swap them out. On attempting to drive there, it wouldn't shift...
Well about a month ago I'm told that the water pump "stuck" and started smoking the belt... but when they shut it off and when restarted it was fine.. so it fits..
Update - apparently I'm a bit addicted at this point... I bought an excellent MEP-802a and an MEP-803a.. neither ran when I brought home, but within an hour had both going.
I see why everyone says the 802 is the backup unit to the 831... my God it's awesome...

I recently changed all the belts on our m936 wrecker. This truck doesn't get tons of use but is started every other day or so. Today we used it to flat tow an m1085 LMTV about 2 miles to a storage yard (I know it's undesirable to flat tow the lmtv) when we got there the water pump on the 936...

No i get that having a spare is key, and I do plan on that, but also having spares on hand is also.. am I the only one who keeps a spare starter and alternators etc hand for rapid repair of vehicles and key equipment?

Anything with low hours/miles in the surplus channel has a manufacturing defect. I bought an m1088 with 20 miles once... thought.. wtf.. turns out the check valves on...
Ok update,,, Pulled the Mechanical fuel pump and found that it was 1) frozen up, stiff and 2) wasn't properly connected in the slot for the control arm. I worked it a bit and freed it up and reinstalled making sure it was engaged in the control arm slot...
