So after working 16 hours a day average for two weeks, I finally finished the Rosscommon conversion. It works great so far. Al three batteries charge, and added two volt meters to the interior. one for the two starting system batteries and one for the accessory battery. All seems ok so far but...

So i pretty much finished the conversion the Rosscommon way. My question is how does the third battery get its alternator charging? Do all three batteries still charge by both alternators at the same time?

I'm switching my 86 M1009 over to 12v with three batteries, two specifically for the starting system. Will the relay mod from Doghead still be ok with a 12v system?

Yes, I installed the new bracket on the rear of the starter. I also used grade 8 bolts for the starter too. Local rebuild shops kinda suck. The only one i would trust is about an hour away iin Chicago. Hard to find time to get back and forth. I will check out that truck supply though. thanks...

Problem finally found and fixed!!! Looks like it was a combination of completely dry and seized axleshaft u-joints on both sides and the steering box. Replaced both and all steering/front suspension bushings with polyuerethane. Driving like new now!! Thanks for all your help and input! I hope...

I just fixed this issue on my 1009. Ended up being a combination of axleshaft u-joints and steering box. Fixed and working great.

Turns out my relay froze up and burnt the solenoid. In turn it burnt up all my starter wires. Currently replacing all. I got my original starter from Ebay member CALTRIC.

I've called multiple NAPA's and no one can seem to locate the relay part #7-01860-1. Is there an updated part number? They can't even seem to search by amperage rating. Thanks for all the help!!

I'm having the exact same issue right now. My cables started melting the coating. I'm gonna replace the cables first and diagnose. I'll keep you updated as to what it ends up being.
