Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

Ha, nope. But I just got done checking the brake fluid levels and there is still fluid in there (it's hard to tell how full because my driveway isn't level and so my deuce is tilted about 5-10º forward and to the side. But there is fluid in there and it's not even close to the same color. The...

Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

Woot, local folks! It's great to hear from you. Yeah, when I first got my Deuce, it had a bent front drive shaft and so I drove it up to Boyce and they did that and a few other things for me. Great guys. I'm thinking I want to use this as a learning experience, so I'm going to make an...

Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

Thanks again for all the help. Yeah I just watched that brake fluid video, it was very helpful. I actually do video production for a living, so I may just film those very things, once I figure out exactly how to do it.

Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

Bob- Thanks for the advice. I am about to check the brake fluid level to be sure, but I don't know how to check the gear oil. I'm sure I can find the procedure in one of the manuals, but would you mind giving me a tip?

Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

Either her or my neighbors who keep glaring my direction as I force them to detour around the truck on their sidewalk jogs. Our city is really bad about giving tickets to folks blocking sidewalks, so I'm expecting a ticket soon too.

Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

Thanks for all the tips everyone... very helpful. So are we basically talking about this procedure? http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/8460-front-axle-seals-boots-stepxstep.html

Oh oh, black fluid on the driveway

I woke up this morning to a bit of a problem. As you can see from the photos there was black fluid leaking from my front passenger wheel. Closer inspection looks like it had started on the way to my house since the fluid is splayed across all the inside of the tire. My first fear was that it...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

Yup that was me. The episode turned out better than I thought it might. Our deuce made a good showing.

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

So I removed the front drive shaft, and it drives much more smoothly. A bit of a shake at about 35mph (probably the tires), but it smooths out very nicely after that. Got it up to 50mph for the first time last week. Any advice on replacement vs repair? Both in terms of cost and safety. I...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

Funny, I'd never heard the term double-clutching. But as it turns out, I was already doing it on occasion. Is is possible to lubricate the parking brake line, or do I just need to hit the weights.

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

Thanks for the tip on A/C. As for the bug out thing, I agree if you are in a large city, and have to go many miles on main roads to get "out" the deuce is probably not the best vehicle. In the city it's probably better to be as invisible as possible. However, I'm in the outskirts of the...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

Thank you for the detailed information. I assumed the same thing, after all a buzzer on a truck is about the last thing the sound guy wants to hear on a movie set.

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

I like that nobody has asked why I bought it. After all do you really need a reason? So far of everybody who's asked me about it, only one guy failed to ask "Why? What are you going to use it for?" All he said was, "Aim for the hippies." :-P But for those that are curious, I'm a bit of a...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

Thanks for the tip, but nope, I'm in high range. It was in LOW when I got it off the truck and took it for its short drive into the parking lot. Low was so low that by the time I pushed the clutch in and got the gearbox into 2nd gear the truck had slowed down so much I needed first again...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

Couple of follow up questions I forgot in my main post. As you can see, they used off the shelf car batteries, is this common? Also the truck vibrates so much at speed that the mirrors are pretty useless, all I see is blurry cars. Is this also common? I put one of those stick-on convex...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

The 1970 Deuce/Shop Truck (M109A3), I bought from Army Trucks Inc. (a prop company out of southern California), arrived a couple weeks ago, sorry I've been too busy to post about it until today. Wow, now that's a truck! Would you believe I've never owned a truck of any kind in my life until...

Newbie! Just bought a Deuce M109A3, need some advice

Thank you everyone for the great advice, encouragement and kind welcome to the "club". Excellent suggestion. I was hoping to listen to audio books on my iPhone on the way back, but maybe it'll be too noisy. That's okay. >Your not crazy, we have had vehicles driven all the way across country...
