Has anyone had a problem with the rear oil pan seal mating up? I have done it twice now with a big cork felpro gasket, rtv on both sides, and both times the rear seal has leaked. I used a little rtv on it. The replacement gasket seems a bit thicker than the original one that came with the truck.

Thank you. So you did not put any sealant in the groove the lower seal part sits in? Or am I just misreading the tm? In other words, the lower seal is just pressed in.

Hey all. So the TM -34 references a pipe sealant used for mating the lower seal half to the bearing cap. The FAQ does not. Is this a necessary step? If yes then what exactly is the correct sealant? Plumbers sealant or silicone sealant? I don't want to use the wrong stuff and end up re-doing...

I saw it with the timing cover off and it did look like the gears could possibly disengage with the cover on. But I was under the impression that as long as you didn't bump or turn the engine with all three bolts out that the gear wasn't going to go anywhere. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Well it looks like the TM actually shows the ip being removed without the water pump or timing cover on though all the forum references say the three ip bolts can be removed through the oil filler hole. I guess next time i'll bring it to someone who works on these engines more regularly. Or do...

I just did the floor of my m1009. I used naval jelly first which removes a lot of surface rust. Seems like it works fairly well. Then I hit it with the grinder. You still have to get everything off. Took me four days.
