    Oil Pan gasket replacement

Has anyone had a problem with the rear oil pan seal mating up? I have done it twice now with a big cork felpro gasket, rtv on both sides, and both times the rear seal has leaked. I used a little rtv on it. The replacement gasket seems a bit thicker than the original one that came with the truck.

    Quick Rear Main Seal Question

Ok so permatex at the ends only. Not along the length of the seal. Thank you tremendously

    Quick Rear Main Seal Question

Thank you. So you did not put any sealant in the groove the lower seal part sits in? Or am I just misreading the tm? In other words, the lower seal is just pressed in.

    Quick Rear Main Seal Question

Hey all. So the TM -34 references a pipe sealant used for mating the lower seal half to the bearing cap. The FAQ does not. Is this a necessary step? If yes then what exactly is the correct sealant? Plumbers sealant or silicone sealant? I don't want to use the wrong stuff and end up re-doing...

    M1009 upgrades

I just did my dash lights today and yes it's quite a difference. Especially since only one was working. My question is that aside from the three guage cluster lights, one for wait and water, and one for the volt guage, I found another bulb. Another 168 that was just hanging around near the...

Volt guage - charging- alternator issue

Yeah I will certainly go over every connection again. Couldve sworn I just cleaned everything a few months ago! Really I was hoping I could rule out the alternators as the problem. Originally I thought that Gen 2 was over charging (possible voltage regulator problem).

Volt guage - charging- alternator issue

In addition. Both Gen lights come on prior to starting. With the dash off and the truck running I can see that the Gen 2 bulb is lit just enough to color the filament but not enough to actually light up.

Volt guage - charging- alternator issue

Hello. My volt gauge is reading low. Cleaned it, tightened it and it still reads in yellow before and during starting. It is just into the green while running. I have manual glow plugs. So I started testing... Batteries (off) read 12.6 Front batt (running) read 14.5 back reads 14.8 Across both...

    quick IP replacement question

I saw it with the timing cover off and it did look like the gears could possibly disengage with the cover on. But I was under the impression that as long as you didn't bump or turn the engine with all three bolts out that the gear wasn't going to go anywhere. Better safe than sorry I guess.

    quick IP replacement question

They said they didn't drop anything but preferred to take it off so as to be able to see and mark the timing gear. Plus he said he'd have 10 or so hours into it!!!!! Should've known when he said he owns a powerstroke. All and all they gave me a fair price and gave me a new water pump for a song...

    quick IP replacement question

Well it looks like the TM actually shows the ip being removed without the water pump or timing cover on though all the forum references say the three ip bolts can be removed through the oil filler hole. I guess next time i'll bring it to someone who works on these engines more regularly. Or do...

    quick IP replacement question

I was aware of the oil filler removal. Ill be sure to mention the IP bolts. And print the tm! Thanks again

    quick IP replacement question

Ultimately your right. I was skeptical of even bringing it in as its not a diesel shop but just wanted to be armed with more knowledge before I go try and negotiate. Thanks for the reply.

    quick IP replacement question

Hello. So I needed a new IP. Don't have the means to do myself so brought to my mechanic. Turns out they removed the water pump. Everything I've read about this process doesn't include water pump removal. They didn't say why but said to come in and they'd show me why. At 80 bucks an hour I'm...

    1009 on WMO

You cannot over filter. I recently built a rig that uses a 100, then 25, then 1, then .5 absolute micron filter bags. Available cheap from filtersource. Then I have a 10 micron water separator on my outbound pump line. Also have a racor 10 micron on the truck. I have run up to 50/50 with no...

    rusted surface prep.

I just did the floor of my m1009. I used naval jelly first which removes a lot of surface rust. Seems like it works fairly well. Then I hit it with the grinder. You still have to get everything off. Took me four days.

    Compression Assistance

used the same set. I had to test the one passenger side nearest to the firewall from underneath. All the others should be accessible though. All my numbers were around 425.
