looking for a mep 005a alternator

Thanks for the reply Bosko. I suspect I've got the same regulator problem you described. I've also gotten the same "It's junk" stories from local "experts" when dealing with military starters/alternators, etc. Unfortunatly, I havn't been as lucky as you in finding someone locally that can...

looking for a mep 005a alternator

Just wondering what you finally did with the alternator on your mep-005? I've got a simular problem. Found an alternator on ebay for 350 plus 105 shipping. Will call Delk's tommorrow and check there cost/availablity. Did you try using a 24 volt battery charger and if so did it work? Thanks...

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

Decided yesterday to go with an injector type compression tester. Got up early this morning and got mostly finished with it. Just need to size and thread the hole to connect the gauge assembly. Here's a few pictures of what I ended up with. Fits right in place of the injector. Hope to get...

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

I like the links as well when I'm going through a thread. I'm embarrased to say, I don't know how to link a thread. I'm sure it's not difficult, I've just never done it. I'll try to figure it out and link up in the future. Thanks. Didn't make much progress today, hopefully more time tommorrow.

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

Yes, I found the thread rather quickly last night, along with some other threads that helped as well. I'll continue to make my own adapter today when I get some time. Thanks.

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

Glow plugs are not the problem. Appears to be compression related. Was hopeing for an injector issue, now i'm hopeing for a valve adjustment or deposits causing a valve to leak a bit. This can't be the first generator to have one hole smoking on it. I'm suprised no one's chimed in with a...

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

Well, it wasn't convieniant to move the genny for a load test so I started checking things out. Pulled the injector and tested it. 1700 lbs on the stroke, holds at 1500 lbs. Dropped it in a hole on a known good unit, fired up with no smoke so I guess it's not the injector. Had the intake and...

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

Thanks for the response. I havn't load tested the unit yet, just ran it long enough to verify it was making power as it should. I'll hook it up and give it a good workout see if any symtoms arise from that before getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the help.

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

I've got an MEP-003A that smokes white (fuel) on one cylinder when cold. No smoke after firing up from the other 3 cylinders. It clears up as it warms up but doesn't really completly go away. It's hard to notice after it warms up, but it's there if you look for it. I've indentified the...

    Genset Trailer pick up

Standard pintle or 2" ball with clasp on it, both work equally well in a 2" reciever hitch. You can use an 8 bolt chevy or dodge rim and tire for an emergency spare, rig lights, air up the tires if needed (be sure to check them), and check the hubs a few times on the way home (first 10-12...

    mep-005 1987 won't stay running

Is your day tank plastic or the metal style tank? I remember William from Delk's telling me once that the on plastic versions the top will settle causing the pickup line to come in contact with the bottom of the tank and plugging it. The fix he suggested was to cut a piece of 2x4 the...

    mep-002a / m116a2 cover

Geat idea. Looks nice. Where did you get the panels you used? Regular selftapping roofing screws? I've got some old pole barn roof sheets in the shed, and will be doing the same thing within the week. Like Gimp said, will work for now and be great tarp support when/if a guy finds a...

Matt, thanks for posting that great video. Great info. Good find.

    Bought 1st M101a2

I agree the original is better, but I've found it easier and faster and cleaner to replace it to the connection block on the tougne frame. If discarding the original pigtail you can butt connect the old ends of the block to your new pigtail for a plug and play install. Also, the wires are...

    help with title!!!

I would pass. Even if buying for parts. If the party with title in hand ever showed up wanting dad's or grampa's truck back, you could be facing big problems.

    towing a crew cab with a m1008

With tip up ramps I don't think it will work. Slide unders you can get it on there but you'll have very little room for adjusting tounge wieght.

    Bought 1st M101a2

I've gottem many A1, A2, and a few A3's through GL. None have ever had the 12 pin plug removed. Some have been damaged beyond use, but never removed. It is very easy to adapt the existing wiring to civi vehicles though. Get yourself 4' of 4 strand trailer wire (heavier 7 strand actually...

    MEP-002a help

Not to keep on about it, but that's exactly what I thought was wrong with mine. If you're sure that's the problem, OK, I'm just trying to save you the headache I went through if it's not. That sensor cuts power to the siloniod when the engine is running so the starter can't engage with the...

    MEP-002a help

Yeah, sounds like you may just need to reset the breaker on your control panel for your power problem. Here are a couple of pics of the rpm sensor I needed to adjust on my set. Just remove the cover and adjust it with a screw driver if that's the problem. You can check it by having someone...
