How NOT To Replace The Voltage Regulator In Your MEP-701a

Thanks! That is helpful and confirms what was speculated earlier in this thread. I am going to try getting it connected before me and the fam go camping this weekend. I'll report back on the results when I run it.

    MEP 701 VR2 wires

Sorry I didn't get the new VR "manual" posted up last nigh like I said I would. But, better late than never. I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

How NOT To Replace The Voltage Regulator In Your MEP-701a

I'll post up a picture of the install instructions when I get home tonight. I believe they are the same as in post #9.

How NOT To Replace The Voltage Regulator In Your MEP-701a

Thanks for the reply Ray. I agree this looks relatively straight forward - but is largely unconfirmed and I'm just not a big fan of burning up money or generators. I have read plenty of other posts with people saying it is easy but I haven't been able to find a successful someone posting up...

How NOT To Replace The Voltage Regulator In Your MEP-701a

12 years ago - I get it. Any chance you were successful with the changes you outlined? I am putting a sx460 in a 701 now. Thanks!

    MEP 701 VR2 wires

Thanks peapvp! Very helpful! I have heard of the battry charging circuit being a common problem so that would make sense. Weird that both issues would come up at the same time but maybe that's just my luck. I will take the alternator out of the system, replace the VAR and runt it for a bit to...

    MEP 701 VR2 wires

Thanks. I think it is a 16B in an ASK and I do have the TMs for it. Unless I missed it, the TM doesn't really state what role the VR2/alternator(?) fills. Do you have any thoughts why that wire out of it would have burned up? Thanks.

    MEP 701 VR2 wires

Okay. I'm going to be up front here with the hope it provides context for the help I am looking for and not a bunch of rediculous comments suggesting I shouldn't even own a MEP. Thank you in advance. I am not an electrician or engineer. I don't have any years of service and only own one piece...

    My first green machine

Could you make a recommendation of how that might work with a battery (or two in series). I am certainly not opposed to going electric start or slipping a battery to help the fuel pump work properly - longer run times would be really nice when it's 10 degrees outside. Thanks.

    My first green machine

Thanks for the input thus far. Coyote, the pump is an auxiliary pump to keep the top tank full when running. ElCapitan, did your fuel pumps run properly with those voltage readings? I will try to test out just rotating the fuel source selector to see if it starts to pick up diesel from the...

    My first green machine

Well, I've done it now. I picked up my first winning auction - a MEP016D with the Yanmar L70 and about 80 hours on it. Got it home, looked it over (wondered why I seem like this stuff so much) and quickly noticed someone didn't think the oil filler cap really needed to be screwed back on. So...

    Generators for Dummies

Well, I have recently acquired a surplus MEP016D and have been sorting through some of the same things you are talking about. First, put a decent multimeter on it to test voltage and hz against the guages to make sure they are accurate. Read the directions with the multimeter for those...
