    M923a1 alternator voltage gauge readings

WOW! I can't believe anyone would opt not to install the 21si after reading this thread. Spend the extra $47 for the guarantee fix. But here's a link for the regulator: Regulator Assembly For AMA5104UT 60 Amp 24 Volt Alternator, AMA2004AS Here's the link for the alternator: 100 NEW Delco...

I think it does good in the mud. Only trouble I've had is when playing in a pond...should have known better...lol. Yes it's heavy but it does good. Search for Code Red in the "slough" at the Bricks. That's the only truck to ever successfully defeat that mud hole.

Yes and yes. I wanted new wiring directly to the battery to eliminate anymore possible issues.

    M923a1 alternator voltage gauge readings

I didn't use the original wires to the alternator. I taped them off and ran a new positive wire to the batteries. I also ran a ground wire from the alt to the batteries. The new alternator will come with a simple wiring diagram. The pulley will need to be drilled to 7/8".

I replied earlier to go straight for the 21si. They work great and it's the the only way to go if you are having alternator trouble. You are going to have to modify the bracket and pulley to make it work.

    M923a1 alternator voltage gauge readings

I was having an overcharging issue last week and put a new regulator ($63) from Erik's on mine. It would charge fine for about 5 minutes and then start overcharging...even rewired straight to the batteries. So a new regulator is not a guarantee fix. I dislike spending money with negative...

Make sure you are getting battery voltage to the exciter wire when the ignition switch is on.

I'm back in the states after a month overseas. I've got a few things done already...fixed the brakes, installed an EGT gauge, installed a delco 21si, mounted a set of 1400's, and mounted a new 18,000 lb warn winch. I've located a deuce cargo bed...just gotta go get it now. Paint to come...

    Generator intermittently overcharging

I'm looking at the info at spidermarine and the delco 21si pulley shaft diameter is .875". My prestolite 5104ut shaft measures .675". So is this a misprint at spidermarine or is a new pulley needed also for the conversion?

What's the part# for this alternator you used? I'm having the exact same problem and already wasted money on 1 new regulator.

Well I did it, stuck Deuce

Traction is the key ingredient. It doesn't matter where you hook the hitch if the tires don't spin or move forward the front end will rise....commonsense. The safest option is to attach a piece of equipment behind the tractor and use it as a "wheelie bar" if needed.

Well I did it, stuck Deuce

Common sense goes a long way. Tractor in low range, 1st gear, and low rpm's can easily be controlled. If you can't keep it from flipping over backwards, sell your tractor immediately and never operate another one.

    piston sleeve removal

I once seen an EMD sling a rod out of the side of the block and land next to my feet. It kept running until I shut it down. Engines can run under some abnormal conditions.
