M1009 rims - upping the size from stock?

Friends: The 33/12:50 - 15's on my M1009 CUCV need replacing. Unfortunately so do 3 of my rims as well. I'm thinking of getting a new set of rims while I'm at it and mounting larger diameter tires than 15". (The 33's are nice but bouncy on the highway). Here's part of my concern: With the...

    1984 M1009 Value?

Friends: I have a 1984 M1009, acquired well over a decade ago from Ft Campbell Kentucky. I haven't driven it much over the past few years, and it has about 40,000 miles on it now. Its a southern (Georgia) vehicle. I have no idea of the value of these things anymore, because I have not...

Wait Light Stays on long time but M1009 will not crank

Problem solved. The starter was bad, way bad, according to the rebuild shop which did an a-z rebuild job. Among other things oil had apparently leaked into the starter (a 27MT) and crudded everything up. Anyway it came out beautiful, got bolted on, and she fired right up. Many thanks to all...

Wait Light Stays on long time but M1009 will not crank

Update - no breakthrtough yet.... Well, the weather warmed up considerably more and I did some basic things IAW the posters above, starting with basics first. 1) Retested the batteries under load, resulting in a reading of 11 volts. So I charged both of them up individually, they were both...

Wait Light Stays on long time but M1009 will not crank

Gents: We just had a cold snap in Atlanta last week, temps in the low teens. I went out to start my M1009 and the wait light stayed on uncharacteristically long, and the engine would not crank. Now its nicely in the 50's or better but the same problem persists. Engine will not crank...

    Left blinkers stopped blinking????

I had a similar issue (i.e. no left turn signal, but a working right turn signal), and after going through the fuse, bulb, socket, connections, etc. began to dread what might be next, but then changed the "lower right" (on the fuse box) flasher and immediately got back into business!

Thanks for priming fuel line tip!

Mebbe I'm a KISS (Keep it simple and stupid) type, but I primed my fuel filter by laying it in its back and filling it full of diesel fuel before attaching it onto the mount. A smidge spilled, but it worked for me. No further priming needed. Gloaf

Coolant filter setup for CUCV - picking the best option

Friends: Having just replaced the radiator, heater core, hoses and thermostat in my M1009 I now turn to installing a coolant filter to keep the system as clean as possible. Despite flushing, who knows what crud there is piled up inside the engine block ready to infect the coolant system with...

    M1009/M1008 Coolant Reservoir/Tank

Adapting the new reservoirs to fit Some slight modifications are needed in the new reservoir in addition to drilling a hole in the tab to attach it to the hanger (I did not use the zip-tie method): 1) the OE tab on the top of the old bottle was flat and just slid straight into the hanger...

Installing front receiver hitch for Surf Fishing

Folks: I wonder if anyone has experience mounting a receiver tube (or hitch) in the front of a CUCV. I'm thinking of doing this for the purpose of installing a removeable cargo carrier on the front of the vehicle, to hold ice chest and gear, as well as mount rod racks for surf fishing. the...
