Invest in the welder, plenty of youtube on how to use it well. Body work is expensive and no guarantee it was done right. Plus a welder can be used for so much more.
I'd start with removing the paint around the crack to see how much is crack and how much is rust. My guess is rust then I would grind that crack until you have clean metal, shape another piece of metal same thickness as the hole you created and tack weld it shut being careful not to overheat it...
I had a similar problem with shutting off and being able to restart, ended up the clamp to the fuel line connecting to the IP broke and it was getting a little air. I put 2 clamps on it cause I had to pull the intake to see it and no problems since.
Did you get anything from LMC? I searched their website but no parts listing for those mud shields. I have half of one (pictured) and the other is missing.
Welded up the power steering bracket that broke, also finally found where that square hole was that is used to move the bracket when tightening the belt.
I replaced my batteries and got ones small enough so both can fit on the rear battery tray. Just have to modify the holder a little bit to be able to use it.
Starts so much faster then it ever did!
